Michael Pascoe likes our tax reform

Michael Pascoe is one of the best economics and business commentators this country has ever produced.

So it’s really something when he comes out in the Sydney Morning Herald singing hosannas to the greater glory of ACT Treasurer Andrew Barr and the tax reforms started in the recent ACT Budget.

it’s been easy to miss that there was some genuinely good news out of Canberra. Real taxation reform, bravely challenging the status quo and doing the right thing for the future of the economy and citizenry, and never mind the inevitable opposition carping.

Such reform lays down a challenge to mendicant state governments with their mediocre leadership and, at best, matching performance.

Yeah but that doesn’t stop him being right on this occasion.

I’ve worked with pascoe, and I’d back him in any company.

It’s about time – back when I worked in ACT Revenue there were taxes that cost more to collect that they raised (ie we made a *loss* by having the tax!)
