Who’s going to run Canberra’s biggest (by far) media organisation?

The SMH Deputy Editor Mick Millett was considered a shoe-in. My mail was that he’d even started looking for real estate here in Canberra.

He can’t have liked what he saw. Crikey’s reporting that he’s gone to the ABC instead.

Newcastle Herald editor Rod Quinn is apparently now the hottest possible.

Didn’t Millet used to live in Canberra?

It went down in long ago. It ranks up there with the West Australian and the Curious Snail as the worst capital papers in the country.

Not sure that I would mention those two newspapers in the same sentence. We spent a couple of weeks in Perth over Christmas and the West Australian seemed quite decent. Courier Mail is, and has always been, terrible, a situation compounded by the fact that you can barely get any other newspaper in Brisbane.

The problems being experienced by the CT (shrinking readership base and sky-high overheads) are being experienced by newspapers everywhere, including the most hallowed of journals, the New York Times. The fact is that people are turning to the internet for their news nowadays.

The CT is only read for comic relief these days, surely?

Too right. Crikey is nasty intolerant hard left crap nowadays.

Unless you believe Barack Obama is an agent of Zionism who bothers with Crikey nowadays?

CT needs something to change. Its readership is shrinking so fast it’s worrying.
Isn’t that why they do ads during the TV news now?

Pathetic for Canberra’s largest media outlet.

I was refering to the CT, not the Newcastle Herald.

Newcastle not being a capital perhaps you meant “the worst metro dailies”?
