Million Paws Walk 2010

Me? Me I got totally screwed over by the probabilistic crapstorm of the untrustworthy failure mass I call my friendship group.

But before everything went to crap I managed to send the Kelpie of Few Accomplishments outside the failure zone to the undiscovered country where people actually do what they say they will.

In so doing I went better than the Prime Minister who couldn’t manage to get the first dog out and about in a photogenic manner.

I, instead, spent the day reading Charles Stross novels, which are not for the hard of thinking. (but are AMAZING)

Anyway, thanks to Threepaws, below a slideshow of the best of the RSPCA’s “Million Paws Walk”. Because we all like pictures of dogs.

vg, for every steak they don’t eat I will eat 2 🙂

buzz I didn’t find them unobtrusive, getting in front of me after the pooch had walked past them was damn annoying and considering the momentum of the pack of walkers Im surprised they didn’t get knocked over, they had all the skill of a canberra driver turning on to a busy road

Jase!

There are plenty of people who dote over their dog (or cat… or whatever “pet” of choice) who should spare a thought for the rights and welfare of all animals, including the ethics of eating animals. I’m glad the animal welfare/vegetarian society people were there. It was a great opportunity to get their message across to a generally supportive audience. They were unobtrusive, friendly and supportive, offering information and an ideal for “thinking person” to take away with them for the day! Good on ’em!

I read their info whilst smashing a mighty Angus and a McChicken. Ethics of eating animals? Oh my hat!

The only ethical issue that surrounds it is when the meat isn’t properly prepared.

The Sea Shepherd mob are just a bunch of crooks anyway. Why did Paul Watson get kicked out of Greenpeace?

I can’t believe how many people turned up, I was going to go but had something else on, my toy poodle looks just like the little on the left.

We all accessorise, but ironically, you probably dress like a dog.

I had a bit of a chuckle to myself when walking – thinking what a great backdrop for an episode of Wilfred! (SBS)

Was it a goat thinking it was a dog or an owner thinking that they had a rare and unique breed of dog?

a day like that isn’t complete without the greenie wankers over at the carillon handing out sea shepherd/anti meat etc propaganda while dressed as chickens and cows

have to disagree with mothy though, i saw lots of unrecovered doggie calling cards left

If you dress your dog, shoot yourself

Was the first year my wife and I had our little dog, so along we went. Had never really thought about just how many pet owners there are in the ACT, and the idea that out and about around the lake yesterday was just a sample of them was a bit mindblowing.

Was great to be walking past Reconcilliation place and looking back along the Kings Ave Bridge to see the line of dogwalkers still streaming along back there, with the front of the line already crossing Commonwealth Ave bridge.

Dogs all round were much better behaved than I expected – not as much barking and carry on as you’d think would occur with that many all in the one place. Dog owners too were well behaved, with only a couple of sightings of the dreaded non-scooping pooper giving the rest of us a bad name.

Of course, there were a few lycra nuts who still expected to be able to speed and weave (without success) through the throng … wankers.

+1 🙂

Congrats to the RSPCA for a really, really well run event. Plenty of stalls for pet related equipment, and the doggie cafe deserves a mention with our pup slurping up his doggachino and biscuit, and his owners tucking in to some good fud too – god bless that dutch pancake trailer, and that’s the shortest line I’ve ever seen on it.

Now if only we could teach our dog at least one trick…

Congratulations to the RSPCA & volunteers who did a fantastic job! Thumbs up also to the thousands of Canberrans and their canine friends for making it a great day at the lake. Sorry you missed it JB.

Got down there towards the end of it – impressive turnout!
