Overlord has sent in this one with this note:

It took walking past twice to confirm in my head that this is spelt wrong. It just screws your brain up.

Signage on a metal roller door at Jamison Plaza just inside an entrance. I’d hope to find correct equipment inside in the case of a fire.

“Extuinguish” looks more dramatic & legal & emphatic, like it would work for, say, “extuinguish native title”.

It need’s a few apostrophe’s.

Yeah, acronyms for emergency equipuiment are a great idea! I prefer the sex toy interpretation!

They need to hand out a dictionary or two at Jammo; the butcher “vacum” packs the meat…

Signage sounds like it might have been installed by a Kiwi.

Thanks, guys, for the explanation on WIP phone.

“It took walking past twice to confirm in my head that this is spelt wrong.”

Did you mean ‘spelled’? I thought ‘spelt’ is a type of wheat. I may even be confusing myself here.

In spite of what you may think they at least got WIP phone right. That’s a Warden Intercommunication Point. The public servants amongst us will know them as those red wall phones by the exit points that the helmeted folk stand next to for fire drills.

I love the sound of an extuinguisher! But the last line is more interesting; what exactly is a whip phone? Is it some kind of sex toy? Or something you use in an emergency involving a horse?

Warden Intercommunication Point…….

A WIP phone stands for Warden Intercom Phone. When a fire breaks out the fire warden communicates with the control room via the WIP phone.

WIP stands for Warden Intercommunication Point.

When a fire alarm sounds (particularly in large buildings), fire wardens will move to their WIP phone to await instructions from or provide advice to the head warden.

WIP = Warden Intercom Phone (used to communicate the status of an area back to a central switchboard)

Although saying WIP Phone is kind of like saying ATM Machine.

Any good pube that has put their hand up to be a fire warden will know what a WIP station is.

A WIP phone means that it is not yet connected – WIP being the generic acronym for “Work In Progress”
(you know like GDE=WIP)

I kind of like “extuinguisher”, and that novel spelling could be used for more suigns and thuings around Cuivuic.

But what’s a wip phone? One you wipe, or maybe whip out in an emergency? A Work In Progress? And why isn’t it a wuip phone, anyway?
