A man and a child had a miraculous escape from serious injury in a single truck crash in Hackett in the early hours of this morning.

The ACT Ambulance Service and ACT Fire & Rescue were called to the scene in Antill Street just before 1am.

Crews arrived to find a small rental truck had smashed into a large tree which crushed and entered the front of the cabin trapping the 53-year-old male driver and a three-year-old boy.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to free the pair from the wreckage while intensive care paramedics provided medical care.

Both were taken to the Canberra Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries for further assessment and treatment.
