For all lovers of Burly-Q, Big Bands and swing, a new show from Miss Kitka’s House of Burlesque:

Searchlights and Sirens.

Featuring local performers in a vintage-style cabaret setting, the show takes the audience down memory lane to war time 1940s. Searchlights and Sirens debuts in Legacy week with all proceeds dedicated to Legacy Australia. With the Spectrum Band playing legendary swing tunes of the day, the show features the entertainment that was popular at the time.

Miss Kitka’s specialises in genuine vintage-style strp tease performance. Don’t come to a show and expect to see nudity. You won’t. But if you want to laugh a lot, cry a bit, hear some great music and admire gorgeous costumes — it could be for you.

Searchlights and Sirens is dedicated to the women who lived, loved, laughed and lost during World War II. While a serious time, Burlesque really came into its own and allowed people to let off a bit of steam and forget their troubles. If an evening of love and romance, laughter and thrills, and fantastic music and costumes appeals to you, then this is an opportunity to dig out the glad rags and enjoy some old-time glamour — and all in the name of a good cause.

Searchlights and Sirens tickets cost $50 and include a two-course meal.
Date: Friday 29 August
Time: 7pm to late
Venue: The Ainslie Football Club, Wakefield Avenue Ainslie, Canberra
Tickets are available at the Club. Phone (02) 6248 8422

Also featuring the fabulous Spectrum Big Band!

And you can get an encore dose of Spectrum the following night at the Folkus Room, too.

Please ignore the Defence link on the post. My error, sorry. The MySpace address is the correct one.

And yes Granny, it is like the Burlesque of Gypsy Rose Lee. A lot of cheek and tease with a little strip.

Score.
The Media Contact for a burlesque show is the Department of Defence.

Speaking of burlesque, they really ought to bring back Sideshow.
Letting a woman eat a slice of cake in that way was quite a change of pace for the ABC…
