The AFP are looking for your help to find an old lost Banks man:

ACT Policing is seeking community assistance in locating an 80-year-old Banks man who has gone missing after being dropped off by car in Civic early this afternoon to attend an appointment in the city.

The missing man, Matteo Bortoluss, suffers from dementia and may have become disorientated.

Mr Bortoluss is described as 165cm (5’5”) tall, of stocky build, and balding, with some grey hair at sides of his head.

He was wearing a blue shirt, black trousers, brown shoes and a navy blue jacket. He had been dropped off at the corner of Northbourne Avenue and London Circuit in Civic around 12.35pm today (Friday, October 3) and failed to turn up for a scheduled appointment a few blocks away.

Bus and taxi operators have been advised to keep a lookout.

Police would urge anyone who may have seen the missing man, or may have information which could assist police in locating him to contact Police Operations on 131-444.

UPDATED: Nothing on the AFP website yet but a source reports the old fellow’s was found (apparently safe and well) shortly after the appeal was issued.

any updates on the man yet?? hope they find him

It could have been a volunteer who wasn’t sufficiently trained, or was new to the case and hadn’t been properly briefed.

However the question begs to be answered, how hard was it to walk him to the appointment? Do people have no capacity for the elderly these days?

Without knowing the facts behind the story, I would gently point out that dementia doesn’t immediately render somebody completely helpless, particularly in its early stages. It is possible to have dementia and be relatively independent. I wouldn’t be so quick to jump in with judgments and emotive language without knowing the back story.

If he suffers from dementia why would someone just DUMP him on the side of the road and assume he can make it to a appointment a few blocks away ??
Some one should of gone with him to where the appointment was !

Oh, no! I do hope they find the poor old chap. Will the police let us know once he is found?
