WorkSafe ACT are advising that they’ve approved the demolition of the building in Mitchell which so spectacularly caught fire back in September last year.
The Energy Services Invironmental (ESI) Pty Ltd premises at Dacre Street Mitchell will undergo a planned demolition, six months after an uncontrolled chemical fire consumed the building on 16 September 2011. The fire left the building severely damaged and the site has been cordoned off for investigation and safety reasons since that date.
“The remains of the building pose structural and safety issues and the partial closure of Dacre Street has been an inconvenience in the area, so the demolition of the building will eventually alleviate these issues,” Mr McCabe said.
“There is likely to be some noise associated with the demolition as machinery operates to dismantle walls and structures and then during the site clearance and clean up.
