Mr Stanhope informs us that the first blocks new suburb of Wright in the Molonglo Valley is going on sale on 19 June in a 100 block auction.

At this stage Wright is really going to be a northern extension of Weston Creek before the whole 13 suburb conurbation takes shape.

And guess what! It’s close to dirty creek known as the Molonglo River!

The suburb of Wright is located to the north of the Cotter Road and is close to established shops, services and infrastructure in Weston Creek. Residents will enjoy easy access to natural attractions including Stromlo Forest Park, the National Arboretum Canberra and the Molonglo River.

Whee!

But if it does sound like your dream, here’s how to go about it:

Potential buyers can visit the Colliers International sale office in the NewActon building on Marcus Clarke Street. For further information on the blocks visit www.molonglovalley.com.au or call Colliers International on 1800 123 230.

There was asbestos found in the soil where the new pond development is occurring. Rumours have that a builder in the late nineties drove up there, dug a hole in the middle of the night and illegally dumped asbestos boards taken out of old buildings.

They are mediating the land before the development continues. If you are looking at buying a block remember to read teh clause where the LDA removes liability for these things. Though you may be able to rescinded the sale if you find illegally dumped asbestos on your land post construction.

Here is a reference from the Weston Creek Community Council meeting:

Does anyone know of this asbestos issue in Wright? I need some info.

Wouldnt it be nice if before residents moved in Molonglo had the following:

A school
Shopping centre
Community facilities
Public Transport
Dual lane roads in and out
Public transport (ideally grade seperated light rail)
Police station
Fire Station

I forgot, this is the ACT where we wait until 20,000 pepel have mobved in BEFORE we build these things.

Ill bet you are a “my glass is half empty type” and you forgot to put an “O”in one of your word’s…TWERP.

Im just blown away by your thoughtful cntribution to public discourse.

Sounds lovely. Sharing experiences (walls) with your neighbours through probably hastily (shoddily) Gungahlin-esque housing. And they’ll all be very individual (unless you’ve ever been to a display village anywhere ever, then they’ll be identical to that) with heaps of character (read: with no character). And judging by the photo on the website, there will be no lycra-clad wankers anywhere…. except for the entire area.

Canberra: the only Australian state/territory comprised solely of gated communities because everyone from Queanbeyan is dirty.

Anyone wanna borrow my high horse?

I saw you riding that horse wearing the wrong sized boots, which is ILLEGAL, and you rode the horse across a pedestrian crossing which is also ILLEGAL (but that’s ok, because we’ll just ignore the rules we don’t like, because harm minimisation is where it’s at).

Ever thought that Canberra planning is conceived by a Queanbeyan mastermind, because Queanbeyanites don’t want those dirty, diseased Canberrans to come and stink up their tidy town?

I can just see the adverts now:

“Backyards big enough for half a kiddie pool. Feel the close community spirit with your and your neighbour’s eaves physically touching! Ride the exciting tiny roads, never quite knowing if it’s a one way street to your death! Upgrade now to the downsized block of your dream!”

Wow…I’m slightly trollish without my morning coffee.
