Monday is a parking day

It seems every week more and more Canberrans are being infected by the bad parking epidemic, it’s getting frightening.

Just check out this massive haul of poor parking shots.

If you’ve seen an outbreak of bad parking, take a photo as evidence and send it to images@the-riotact.com.

Be sure to include the word “parking” in the subject line and let us know what name you would like to be credited as.

1. Balthazar brings us the goods:

Here are two examples of bad parking from the car parks of Gungahlin taken Tuesday morning.

Jam Lonely

2. Paul’s pics are small but potent:

In the driveway, in front of the hydrant booster at Aldi in Lanyon.

Teeny

Parking at the Hyperdome.

Weeny

3. Nicola’s husband doesn’t understand how important this is:

Seen at O’Connor shops, taking up two spaces in the midst of the 5pm after-work rush, while half a dozen cars queue for a spot. Hubby wouldn’t stop our car to let me get a photo of the work van parked on the other side of the shops, right in between the pedestrian crossing and a ‘No Stopping’ sign. :/

Also quite small.

4. Kimmi is too busy to say more:

On a busy Wednesday.

Spacious

5. Sbugden finds no direct connection between literacy and parking ability:

At the National Library of Australia.

It's all wonky.

6. Harold just doesn’t know:

I don’t know how some of these people got their licences.

What? Where? Why? Who? When? How? Pardon? Buh?

7. Kate gets in close:

A great example of touch parking in the ANU carpark on Barry Drive today.

Advice round the office is don’t park anywhere near the orange Subaru.

The advice makes no sense.

8. Cath has had a busy day:

In the past 24 hours I’ve spotted two examples of Canberra’s finest parking. The first at the O’Connor shops – this Honda driver was nice enough to put her hazard lights on, but I’m quite sure that the only ’emergency’ she was facing was the fast approaching IGA closing time.

Dark

The second was at the Northbourne Ave / Barry Drive intersection this morning, where a white station wagon was stopped on the median strip. Presumably it actually was a break down, but the car did manage to get onto the median strip!?

Light

9. Johnyboy spent an afternoon at the Front Cafe discussing the greater implications of this parking fiasco with the locals:

Parking at the Front.

I made that up.

10. Aeek is considerate:

Across from Black Pepper, mmm green eggs and ham, angle chosen for Poetix; had to take a second shot when the closer one turned up.

Aeek

11. Genie wishes this wouldn’t happen:

Taken in the Nishi building

Not even parked in a car park despite there being dozens of empty spots.

Silver

12. Cath caught this beauty:

Another gem spotted on David Street today – apparently this merc driver doesn’t realise that you’re supposed to ‘pull over’ when you park, and instead believes that you just stop where you are.

Wow!

13. Sheep Groper with a two hit combo:

A half arsed attempt at parking within the lines, and the diplomatic core doing what they do
best.

Lines Core

14. Belcoman better have a cape:

Parking in true Yarralumla style taken last Friday.

For justice!

15. Mothy closes this week:

Spotted behind Big W in Gungahlin, Saturday morning 31/08/12.

Mothy? Mothy!

16. BONUS: Logan brains us the missing third picture:

Sorry, forgot to attach the third pick.

FINISHED!

re the merc in #12, perhaps she just ran out of petrol… or was that neurons..?

Maybe its Mercs, #10 is also a Merc parcked in the middle across a driveway to more parking. Car’s front corner was about a metre back from the curb corner. Sorry, I had other priorities than showing this clearly.

Oh, and is the building abandoned Water Police?

Give number 5 a break. They got the VW close to the bin but just couldn’t lift it in. The driver is probably off looking for some strong lads to help finish the job.

#12… Wow.. just wow !

In the middle of the road and blocking a driveway….

0_o !

And I could be wrong, but it also appears to be less than 3m from the unbroken lines.

Stop the fight! It’s all over ladies & gentlemen. The Merc has won by unanimous decision. Well done, Cath.

That has to be the worst “parking” effort I’ve ever seen. The driver has literally left their car in the middle of a road. Not even a tradie would do that.

Page 12 for those interested.

But it is facing the right way.

I know how much you all hate change, but trust us, this is for the best.

Although we will tweak it next week to make it a bit easier to get to the next one.

You sound like a politician.

Surely ACT Parking Operations should check for this post every Monday?

Bad Barcham!

I don’t like it either, but sadly things were breaking the other way!

Is there a middle ground that could be reached?

While not a fan, the clicky clicky does make going back to see the photos people have commented on easier…

You mean I have to say Bad JB? That feels wrong, somehow. Or that you were off surfing and couldn’t fix it?

Perhaps you could put a ‘next’ or an arrow, as it is too hard to click on the relevant number.

At least for the middle aged and shaky. (-:

Sorry about the clicky clicky guys,

But having them on the one page was overloading google’s image server (!) with the volume of readers wanting to see them all at once.

This new layout makes Spotto-ing much more difficult.

Bad Barcham!

While I’m all for the public shaming of horrible parkers. Not so keen on the clicking on 16 links. If you were to break it up just do it at the very most 3 pages.

Spotto Page 7 and double points for page 10.

Tragic that I went through this, but first step is admitting I have a problem.

#10’s a double spotto with a very cool ’32 3 window
