How was your weekend? Did you have fun? Did you park anywhere stupid?

Spotted a poor parking effort? Send them in to images@the-riotact.com!

1. RP071 had to send us two pictures of this park just to prove the car was actually stationary and not in the process of parking:

I snapped this picture of this I30 on Newland Street Parkes this morning (28/02/13) before a female ran out to move it. Awesome effort and the reason why some people should not have licences.

wow egads

2. Jacqui submits this for your disaproval:

Just thought I’d share this one.

It’s from the 6th feb while they were resurfacing the carpark at Coleman court

meck

3. Peotix has taken time out from pointing out my typos to make fun of a park that is actually pretty impressive considering that the driver has no hands:

Silly bird is parked at an angle at the Canberra Centre. When will they learn?

cawcaw

4. Girt_Hindrance has sent us two images this week because he is observant and handsome:

Two would-be taxis in Kambah.
Props to Carnardly.

blurg

5. Girt’s second find:

Caught this one Thursday at Homeworld Tuggeranong. Car was parked for at least 30 mins.

eep

6 . Matt contributed this:

3 cop cars all in a no stopping zone.

7. Monarchrepublic finishes this monday off with a late but great submission:

The sign at HomeWorld I think does include the words ‘One Way’, but it’s immaterial given that anywhere open to the public for the purposes of driving your registered vehicle, such as a carpark, is subject to the Australian Road Rules. Cops are being lazy if they don’t enforce it, and yes, probably because at HomeWorld it will set a big precedent.

And that’s why, if you even get into your drivers seat after coming out of a pub or bar for example, a little the worse for wear, that the cops can book you – even if you didn’t intend to drive – it’s a public place and you looked like you intended to drive. If you were on your driveway, it would be harder for them to prove as it’s private property.

Nico Bellic is looking for number 3.

… we once had a couple of Police Officers in our store. A lady proceeded to complain to them about someone going the ‘wrong way’ in the car park and wanted the offender to be booked (she even offered to point out the specific car). The officers replied “sorry ma’am, because it isn’t a public road there isn’t anything we can do. You just have to be courteous”. The look on her face was priceless!

They were wrong. The road rules apply as per normal. The issue is the signs on the road – I haven’t seen them so don’t know what they look like. They must be a significant likeness to that prescribed in the Australian Road Rules in schedule 2. Signs can be on, above or near the road, but they must be a reasonable likeness to the ARR schedule. There are several one way signs listed, if it’s just an arrow then IMHO it isn’t sufficient, it must also include the words “ONE WAY”.

Will put it to you that they weren’t so much wrong, as lazy. They know the rules and will apply them when they feel like it; they just didn’t want to get involved in this particular squabble. They’re also likely aware that applying a rule once potentially sets a time-consuming precedent.

Perhaps SgtBungers ,resident road signage expert might be able to comment.

And if you meet me going the right way according to the arrows I’m going to sit in the middle of the lane and make you reverse out of my way.

Frank if you were in the middle of road there would still be plenty of room to drive around you but more likely I’d be in the parking spot you just drive 1/2 a kilometre around the car park to get to

I take issue with those stupid arrows in home world, for years it existed peacefully without them with a bit of courtesy it worked fine. Now the arrows can send on a round trip of the entire car park to arrive at a car space that was only a few metres away only to find it taken by somebody who didn’t follow the yellow arrows, which I might add are only advisory given it is private car park according to the signage.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

It’s akin to driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

In the Australian Road Rules the car park is called a ‘road related area’.

If you drive contrary to the arrows you can be fined.

Actually you are the one who is wrong. Having worked in Homeworld, we once had a couple of Police Officers in our store.

As someone said previously, we existed peacefully without them before, and the road is wide enough to fit 2 cars side by side – even the soccer mums in their soft-roaders. I’m afraid people just forget how to use common sense these days.

I’d like to see that Frank. I now go around the bends on the right hand side of the roadway. Happy to run into you as it will be your insurance company who picks up the tab. And if you don’t have insurance that’s ok too, as mine will pay for my car and then sell your debt to a collection agency who will hound you for years until you pay up.

Way to get a bad credit rating.

apart from the yellow arrows there are no “official” one way signs

I do believe there is an official sign that meets the Australian standard at the entrance on the Shell service station side. Maybe just follow the arrows to be on the safe side?

Is 7 in a disabled spot? I have to commend them on their reversing skills. If they have a disabled sticker then even better.

Peter

not quite, they are in the section in between that is lined out so people with wheelchairs have room. I often see people parking in those areas regardless. I heard someone once say to her friend that she shouldn’t have parked there but she did anyways… hypocrite

How lucky is the first car that she wasn’t parking on a hill without the handbrake.

It would be funny (and dangerous) to come out and try and find your car and it’s 500m down the road and smashed into a house

And I bet the car parked in HomeWorld failed to follow drive the correct way around said car park according to the arrows

Peotix? Bad Barkum! Bad!

Somebody forgot the handbrake….
