Monday Night League - what do you think about it?

The Roar is previewing tonight’s game between the Canberra Raiders and the North Queensland Cowboys at the Stadium in Bruce.

It sees Neil Henry returning to Canberra as the Cowboys coach having jumped ship at the end of last season.

But I’m curious Raiders fans. How do you feel about trooping out to watch football on a Monday night? Does it still feel like a proper day at the football?

Clashes with “Top Gear”

i attend my first monday night game tonight and it was awesome !!!!

PS: Monday Night games are great on TV as well. There’s no ads on Foxtel’s coverage, there’s not much risk the game will clash with anything else you wanted to watch on TV on a Monday night, and the commentators are way better on Fox.

Even if you don’t have Foxtel at home (I don’t), just go and watch the game at your local pub or club. Since it’s not on FTA there’s likely to be a decent crowd gathered to watch it at such venues, unlike games on FTA where any bum with a telly can just turn the knob to 9. Get a decent meal, a few drinks, and comfy seating. It’s the next best thing to being there, and pubs and clubs aren’t too busy on Mondays either so it’s not too crowded.

I quite like Monday Night games. It’s a nice counter to mondayitis at work looking forward to a decent night out afterwards, it leaves a bit of a cliffhanger to the weekend’s NRL results, and it means only three days a week without any NRL.

I was at the game tonight. It would have been helpful if they laid on about double the number of buses, since the bus I was on from Civic at 6:31pm only had about two square feet of spare standing room at the moment it departed Civic. It would also be nice if the buses stopped on the GDE to let passengers off rather than make us wait in 15 minutes of traffic headed north past the Stadium to Ginnanderra Drive and then south waiting in the same queue as the car drivers that need to stop and pay $5 to park.

Oh, and how bout them Raiders. I’m new in town and had never been to a Raiders game before (except for that trial game vs the Sharks at Sieffert in January). It was good to see my Storm thump the Cows last weekend, and it was even better to see the Raiders humiliate them this week 🙂

I love Monday night games !! Esp in Canberra… (I mean its not like we’ll ever get a Friday night home game.. they happen once in a blue moon)

But I do also agree with MsCheeky… Nothing beats Sunday arvo footy sitting out in the sun.

Holden,
that’s the thing i love about Victorians. So welcoming and adaptable to change.

Haha, at least I don’t have a blinkered view of others.

I’m South Australian. 😛

I’m a Raiders member and I love the Monday night home games. It’s a bit of a bright light at the end of a Monday work day.

And they seem to attract bigger crowds, so there’s a better atmosphere.

I don’t really follow NRL, but if the AFL ever adopted this Monday night crap I would be pissed off.

Some things are just meant to be!

Being a Monday’s expert and bragging (or not) to your mates about your results on the weekend is one of those things that shouldn’t be messed with. Simple as that.

Soon we’ll be having night time grand finals, haha … oops!

I love the Sunday afternoon games, sitting in the sun on a crisp Canberra day. I don’t go to night games because its too damn cold, and because its too early in the week – I nest at home then. And Gungahlin Al, I’m with you. I’ve tipped Manly four weeks in a row expecting them to recover and play, and its not happening.

Worked this time 🙂

Has no bearing on my decision, but I am already sick of Monday night games. IMHO Monday night games should be exclusievly Sydney team V Sydney team.

I dunno about TV, but I know 2CN has commentary of Monday night games when non-metro (Sydney) teams are playing.. ie. this game should be broadcast into both Canberra and Nth Queensland on ABC.

Wish it was back on TV instead of locked into stoopid Pay TV.

(Go Cowboys! Damn Raiders have cost me too many points in the tipping comp already – they’ve lost me. Ditto Manly.)

Apparently the answer I would like to choose is not a considered a valid poll option!
