Monday parking adventures

Barcham 22 April 2013 29

It’s Monday, and that means I have to dig through the GAZILLIONS of photos you guys have sent in.

If you are one of the few people in Canberra who have not sent me a parking photo this week and would like to, email us your pictures to images@the-riotact.com.

Make sure to include the word ‘parking’ in your subject and let us know what you’d like to be credited as.

1. Ryan is going to kick us off this week:

The grey car is parked in a taxi zone, the maroon car is ok because it is only half in a no stopping zone

number1

2. Alex has been keeping his eyes on the Garbos:

Garbage truck is parked across empty spots while hopeful drivers wait. Only a four minute wait, but a working man needs his coffee, right?

garbage truck

3. Reprobate spotted this enthusiastic shopper:

I took this last Thursday at the Hyperdome. The NSW rego’d Golf GTi was parked beside motorcycle parking spaces and in front of the trolley ramp, with heaps of vacant proper parks around.

hyperdome

4. Peter found these close friends:

Taken this afternoon (Monday 15 April, ~17.30) on Bunda St

Notable for two items:

– that the two small cars are in one space; and
– the green car has diplomatic plates, so its not just the local bogans, its foreign ones as well

tight

4. A different Ryan noticed this ute with personal space issues:

The south side has some ‘winners’ in the good parking sweeps also.

southsidestyle

5. ThisIsAName has been staking out the ADFA car parks:

I spotted this cluster of parking attempts all in a single section of
an ADFA carpark. May you enjoy 🙂

ADFA Still ADFA They should teach parking at ADFA

This one was from Easter, taken sometime around the late afternoon if I recall properly. Despite there being some spare spots, both these avoided the ‘No stopping sign near a corner to utilise some larger “parking space”

Easter

6. Allen sent us this collection:

Mum’s Taxi perhaps?

Mum's Taxi

Yep, parked across the driveway, love a challenge while I drive haha

driveway

Do morons travel in packs?

packs

I’m sure they tried their hardest… Judging by the amount of damage on this car, driving definitely isn’t their thing .

damage

Parked for 40+ minutes in the drop off zone at the airport, a ticket well earned

airport

Pretty epic effort, free carparks to the right but he parked it there and went on inside.

epic

….wow

wow indeed...

Majura dons house . I’m on fire haha

So hot right now

Out the side of gungahlin college… Awesomeeeee effort

Sizzling even.

7. An anonymous Rioter sent us this magnificent park:

This d-bag parked in the narrowest bit of a street in Crace.

Wow Wowwee

8. Kate caught this great piece of Government parking:

This was taken this morning in our Parkes car park, creative parking is not an uncommon sight in the parliamentary triangle!

reserved

9. Poptop has been doing an extensive study into hospital carparks:

My contributions to Bad Parking Monday – from the little parking lot outside the Walk-in Clinic on Sunday morning. Apparently parking signs don’t count at the hospital.

sick fully sick get down with the sickness

10. Anonymous managed to find the time to catch us this shot:

From the Alive gym in Narrabundah. There were lots of awesome efforts this morning but I was running late for a class and only had time to snap one of them. We were tempted to squeeze our little car in next to it just for giggles but decided that would only screw over well-parked Bluey.

Well-parked Bluey

11. Flyinghurts is brought down by this shot:

Parking earnst and young carpark style.

One of the worst parks I’ve seen in that carpark

parking parking

12. Dilandach gives this park an F:

This was in the underground parking at gungahlin, the A on the wall is for row ‘A’ and certainly not ‘A’ for parking effort.

I

13. Milkknife has an odd name, and has spotted an odd park:

Belconnen Mall – Saturday Afternoon, 4:30pm… A Smart Car that can park anywhere does not make it smart to park anywhere.

NEVER

14. John spotted this classic style poor parking effort:

Blind commissioner was at the national museum. Another great car parking attempt by a local.

KNOW

15. Brian gave us this pretty picture:

WHAT

16. Jason found his path blocked:

This is why we can’t have nice footpaths – Woden Sunday morning market

TO

17. Mothy was unimpressed with this terrible driver:

This one was spotted at the Zoo on April 6th. Champion had blocked the footpath in the middle of the carpark because they couldn’t be arsed parking further down the car park where there were 10+ spaces available. Meant dodging traffic with the pram for the length of the carpark rather than being able to use this path to cut through.

SAY

18. Finally our great and illustrious leader Johnboy came across this park during his nightly crime-fighting patrols of Dickson:

HERE

Curse you RiotAct!!!

This morning at 7.40am I was at Bunnings Belco, getting some stuff. I abandoned my car randomly in the empty car park. Then, (knowing my f*ck*ng luck,) I thought some Rioter would come along and snap it, and send it in. The thought of the shame made me maneuver it into proper position!

Much like drugs or porn, these “Monday parking madness” posts just don’t do it for me anymore. It’s a gateway post, and now I need something harder. More upside down cars, or cars in trees, or some other bizarre and compelling use of automobiles.

Man, I knew I should have taken a photo of the Rodeo parked up against the tree on the Corner of Drakeford & Tharwa Dves…….

I think #11 is my favourite from this bunch. To me, it symbolises why this weekly article was created.

It’s not really about bad parking – parking is just how it manifests.

What this thread is really about is the litany of inconsiderate wankers in Canberra who have “EL” in their title and thinks the fact that they share a title with tens of thousands of Canberrans and earn a fairly standard wage by Canberra standards means they’re above having to walk 20 metres.

Here’s what I don’t understand – is there a secret handshake? Is there something about them that makes them instantly recognisable to each other? It’s just that you’d think they’d recognise that this behaviour pisses them off, and perhaps stop doing it themselves.

Or maybe the next almighty EL who walks past #11 just thinks “well he’s probably an EL2… or maybe even SES! Of course he should be able to park there and save himself that 15 seconds”

Missed that promotion again heh?

None of these people deserve to have their regos hidden.

I’m glad you liked the picture, though I’ll have to disagree with the swipe at public servants. Given the gym clothes the culprit was wearing, I’d assume they parked there to visit club lime upstairs. Photo was taken around 7ish and the car was gone when I went to uni at noon. Sure, they might be a public servant, but I think they were just lazy given I had no issue parking a few spots down from them.

Also, it’s my understanding that SES folks usually get reserved car spots. One of the perks of the job in addition to a healthy salary, an executive assistant and a phone.

magiccar9 magiccar9 8:15 am 23 Apr 13

#8…. how did they get the car in there? Surely if they had reversed into the spot they would notice they were ‘a little’ off center. If I were the driver in the $40K + Mazda MPS next to them I would be incredibly worried of the state of my car when I returned – if they can’t park in the spot properly lord knows how they’ll go getting out of it….

Aubergine Aubergine 4:07 am 23 Apr 13

#1 and the first photo in #6 are the same taxi zone in Sydney Ave. Maybe we can get a whole album of photos of twats parking in this spot.

Now while I admit I didn’t do my bit, but I’m surprised we have none from around Bruce for the NRL Rugby Test. Half the cars there were parked illegally.

Another good spot if anyone is interested is the taxi rank at Kambah Village. Pinwillie’s park there all the time, because it’s the only spot they can open the door enough to get their large arse out of the car.

Wow dude…axe to grind much? Or are you just trying to supplement the Monday parking post with a new feature, the Monday ‘drawing a long bow’ post?

The red CRV (no number) is hardly tragic. OK over the line and I couldnt walk away with it like that but are we just patrolling car parks now desperate to find the slightest transgession so we can jump on here crowing?

Completely agree. Of the several hundred thousand cars in Canberra some of them aren’t exactly between the lines. Oh the humanity. Quick – get it on the internets – gosh they’ll feel silly when they realise what they’ve done…

#1 is the lovely Sydney Ave Forrest. I have been legally parked outside DBCDE and had a person alongside me in a lane and another behind them, so I was blocked in. both cars were the “trendy” SUV-type things. big car, small mind

While being a perfect parker myself (obviously!), I do have some sympathy for the car at the National Museum – those seem to be quite narrow spaces.

For anyone who wants to see some truly dreadful parking, applied consistently, go and have a look at the Hellenic Club carpark on a Friday or Saturday night.

IrishPete IrishPete 1:27 pm 22 Apr 13

What’s with the numbering, there being two Number 4s and several different photos listed under the same number?

Anyway, why wasn’t the car parked in the airport drop-off zone subjected to a controlled explosion?

Also I think the two small cars in the one sport on Bunda Street should be encouraged – it’s efficient use of space (albeit one of them is protruding quite a bit into the next space). And if they’re paying, then double the income for the ACT Government.

After looking at examples such as #8 it’s clear that having a small car does not make parking easier for some people.

They should be removed from the road before they can do real harm.
