Monday Parking shame pit

Morning Rioters!

It seems our ongoing crusade against the bad parkers of Canberra is finally bearing fruit, as we have less photos this week than we’ve had in a fair while.

The only logical explanation for this is that all of these crappy drivers have seen their cars on this site, felt bad about it, and sworn to do better.

Yup.

Well done to all of us!

If you happen to spot some terrible parking while out and about be sure to do your civic duty by sending a photo of it to images@the-riotact.com.

Make sure to include the word “parking” in your subject and let us know what name you would like to be credited with.

1. Tristan kicks things off with this classy pic:

Spotted this in the Belconnen mall, explains itself!

Red

2. Smee is keeping an eye on the Hyperdome for us:

Hyperdome carpark. Parked in the disabled parking, with no sticker and with the front overhanging making it hard for people to get by.

White

3. GP is sympathetic to the poor parkers:

Friday night drinks at the Weston Raiders Club after work. I wasn’t as keen to get in there as the drivers of these two cars, but I can understand…

Green

4. Caf spotted an old friend/repeat offender back from the grave:

The dead have risen, and they’re parking badly!

Yellow

5. Jason dropped these images on us:

Truck Trailer

6. Martlark has been busy:

Chandler street, cleverly blocking a pedestrian crossing.

Strange

Kaleen sports club.

Black

Loading zone outside ABS house. Fernwood truck there advertising all day and not loading or unloading.

Fernwood

7. Pork Hunt should change his name to Park Hunt but probably not:

Parking Queanbeyan Roos Club style.

Teal

8. Harlod’s harvest:

Most of these where taken at the Macquarie shops.

I believe Number 2 is actually a parent’s with pram spot not a disabled spot. Can’t excuse them for parking over the footpath though.

Nope, it’s a disabled spot. Those front two both are. The others around them are mostly pram spots.

Whilst we’re on the pram spot/bad parking topic, these spaces aren’t legally enforceable like disabled spots. Sure it isn’t fine form to use them without a pram, but to all you child-toting drivers stop threatening people with a ticket for using them. You don’t have a leg to stand on! You use our ‘regular’ spots, so it’s fair game when the carpark is crowded. Suck it up and go park your SUV somewhere else.

Must have only just changed with all the marking for the post office as they been parent with prams spots for years. I love that the post office upstairs didn’t seem to need any extra parking spots but now that it is downstairs there is a greater need for loading, disabled and short stay parking.

Is there anything sadder or more pathetic than buying a big yellow Hummer?

Yes there is. Getting the personalized numberplates ZOMBIE in reference to a yellow Hummer being a pivotal vehicle in a Zombie movie.
I don’t know why Barcham bothers blanking out that particular plate when it’s obvious which car it is.

The way that woman drives and parks that yellow Hummer suggests it was purchased for her own defence.

Having “Tonka” written on it?

Re ABS building in #6, isn’t Win News in the wrong too.

Bit hard to tell from the image but looks like he had room to back up and fit in the zone.

There are two categories for bad parking, those that are either unable to park within two lines properly, either because they can’t park or don’t care. Secondly those that just park illegally and are quite capable of parking elsewhere but choose to just break the laws.

I’m not sure whats worse. I generally laugh more at those with the inability to park between the lines (I’d hate to see them try and colour in between the lines)

To be fair to the truck in the first one at #6, that is next to the entrance to the undercover parking for the new apartment building – likely someone moving in, but suspect the truck is too tall to get into the carpark (even if it does satisfy the minimum requirements).

Great work! Now let’s have a crusade against bad grammar.

Fewer photos?

Yup. Dammit.

To be fair, That is the only spot where you could unload a truck like that on Chandler st.

Re 4. – so the Governator has moved to Kanberra?

I think there might be a spotto in number 4, too, but it’s a little hard to see…

Spotto! (second image #6)
