Does anyone know of any companies that pay for old household items.

I have an old computer, chairs and TV to get rid of.

I know that Ezyscrap collect it for free but $ would be good.

O’connor. Umm…is it possible to send private messages on riot-act?

Are you anywhere near Civic? I’d need to drop it off after work ideally.

El…yeah, save me a few bucks.

LOL.

Do any RA-ers want a 21″ CRT monitor for free? I’ll even drop it off.

gri is really good im really happy with them they told me i could bring my scrap metal in and they will pay me for it or i could leave it outside and they would pick it up for free i called ezy scrap too they werent too friendly so i took it to gri and got some money for it. beats paying to drop it off to the tip!

Or there is Ezy Scrap:

If it’s metal, they’ll come and pick it up and take it away.

GRI Pty Ltd, 1300 767 033, they will pay for any metal items you drop off to their yard at Underwood St Oaks Estate. The yard is just off Canberra ve next door to the old Tannery.

Does anyone know the number for that cash for scrap metal place that sometimes advertises on tv?

Try the FREE classifieds that appear in the Canberra Times every Tuesday. Items for sale must be under $100, but placing advert is FREE. You can do it online by 2pm Mondays – see the canberra times website.

Also, try calling the 2CC radio trading post run on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9 to 12pm.

All the best in selling them.

You could try auctioning your junk at http://www.dola.com.au.

Another vote for Freecycle: they’re a good bunch. Don’t be afraid to give stuff to the person who seems to need it the most, not necessarily to the first reply. There was a bit on one of those white trash reality shows – A Current Affair or something like that – that got a whole bunch of freeloaders signing up, thinking they could get a free Mercedes just by haunting the mailing list. Not sure if they’re still around, but probably not.

I used to have fun taking old computers from various places, getting them up to spec with good free software and whatever parts I could scrounge, and making them available on Freecycle for people who didn’t necessarily need a whiz-bang games machine but did want a bit more computing power than their electric typewriter was offering. No time to do that any more, but it was fun. I recommend it to any geeks – especially Linux geeks who want to spread the word – with time on their hands.

If you can’t sell the items and they are too good to throw away, have a look at the Canberra Freecycle group. Freecycle is a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It’s all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. The Canberra group has almost 3,000 members. Its a great way to get rid of junk that is still useful. We’ve given away everything from trailer loads of dirt to old door frames. The best bit is the recipients come and collect it from you.

Allclassifieds work well as long as your listing is informative and your prices are reasonable. Old computers get sweet fa though, if it’s less than a PIII 1.5 good luck, top PIIIs might get $20-$50, lower spec P4s maybe up to $100 if you’re lucky, but even the poor people turn their noses up at CRT monitors now!

Did somebody say drugs

What sort of chairs?

Allhomes classifieds are quite good. Got my fridge there.

What’s Cracker?

Try Drug Converters, (Cash Converters)if the stuff is saleable they might give you a pittance for it, otherwise try a classified ad on Cracker or the trading post.
