The Emergency Services Agency is warning that they’re planning to light some fires this week in the name of hazard reduction.

The burns are to take place on Tuesday 7 in Flat Rock Spur in the Bendora Area of Namadgi National Park and on Wednesday 8 April 2009 in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Black Mountain Nature Reserves.

The burn at Flat Rock Spur in Namadgi, which is to take place on Tuesday 7 April, will be a large burn and is expected to produce smoke for up to a week.

Like in all controlled burns, safety will be of paramount importance. Experienced fire managers supported by trained fire-fighters, will conduct the burning operation.

Temporary smoke cover is likely to occur. Every effort will be made to conduct the burn in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

So some cracking sunsets coming right up then.

I often end up seeing bum instead of burn in print.

Obviously worried about the ring of fire.

Had a few good possible shots at my place tonight with strands of smoke coming over Kambah. But you can definitely smell the smoke in the Tuggeranong Valley.

Two more with more colour in them.
Burn is behind Tidbinbilla Mtn from my place.

I was just riding into town down the federal highway, and the smoke coming from the Bendora area is pretty obvious. Is there anyone with a view of the Brindies who can furnish us with a photo?

I could have been up there in the sun, playing with a drip torch, but sadly had to go to work today… 🙁

You guys are doing a good service here 🙂 Thank you.

(Damn well thought by the smoke the other day we were all going down, until I remembered these planned burns, I don’t listen to the radio enough obviously).

Also what should (hopefully) be released after Easter is another prescribed burn out at Mount Clear way. This burn off will go for a few days & possibly a week. I don’t have the full details yet, but it will be a very big burn off including a lot of Parks & Volunteer Rural Fire Fighters from around the ACT.

How perfectly Freudian.

I often end up seeing bum instead of burn in print. Especially italics. I had a big talk to myself about it years ago. No worries with my eyes either.

No corrections made DrKarl, I’d like to suggest two things:

1) An eye test,

2) Keep net censorship comments on stories about net censorship.

Cheers,

I was under the impression that people in the business referred to them as “prescribed burns” or “fuel reduction burns” on account of the fact that they can sometimes get out of hand.

AArrrr you corrected it “controlled burns planned” was “controlled bums planned”

“Burning Bums”, is this how the Governments going to solve the homeless problem? Censorship of the web and who would know? I just love typo’s
