Chief Minister Gallagher has announced she’s reached agreement with the Federales to place more interns into Canberra’s hospitals:

“The ACT Government has agreed to fund an additional five internships in 2013. In return, the Australian Government will fund five additional intern places in the ACT public hospital system, and a further five internships in ACT private hospitals in 2013.” said Ms Plibersek.

“These places will increase the supply of highly trained medical professionals in the ACT, and will also ensure that more Australian trained doctors remain in our health workforce.”

“I congratulate the Chief Minister for her foresight in tackling the projected shortage of medical internships in our hospitals next year,” said Ms Plibersek.

Media Release from Katy re health with figures in it?

Could be anything from 2 doctors to 50 doctors.

I no longer believe the numbers.

Cry me a freaking river, then build yourself a bridge and GTF over it.

Did you hear that, everybody? We all just need to “GTF over” it. Systemic fraud is not worth complaining about, or even investigating. Just get over it.

What intelligent advice.

What a shame for you that the numbers agree with the ones released by the Commonwealth department. It must be a conspiracy!

What they put out instead reads like they … haven’t really done much (even though you suggest they actually have).

I’m suggesting no such thing. I am merely reporting the facts (population, percentages, previous intake) that are readily available. I provided these to attempt to answer your question of “Why did we only grab 15 of them?” by showing that “only” is either intentionally misleading or ignorant of the facts. Your call.

My point, in case you missed it the first time, is that this form of nauseating old fashioned spin doesn’t cut it in the ACT (or surrounding regions). Had just half the relevant info in your replies been in the press release, you could come away from reading it thinking the government is doing something useful.

What they put out instead reads like they just want a shallow piece of guff in the next day’s dead tree edition but haven’t really done much (even though you suggest they actually have).

For the record, this increase of fifteen brings the number of interns in the ACT to 101 next year, compared with 72 for last year.

Only 15 new doctors and they put out a joint media statement expecting adulation? There are hundreds of medical graduates seeking internships, and once they are settled around here they could ease our GP crisis in a few years, either personally or by displacing other doctors. Why did we only grab 15 of them?

This 15 is only from the “extra” intern places. The majority of the interns were already placed, with a significant number in ACT hospitals.

So for the “extra” interns (those who did not already have a place)… yes there are “hundreds”. Approximately 1.5 “hundreds”. So Canberra has ended up with around a tenth of the extra interns. That contrasts with our approximately 1.6% of the Australian population. We should take into account the larger region which uses our hospitals, so we got about 10% of the extra interns despite our hospitals serving less than 2% of the Australian population.

Explain your point again?
