More pivots than you can poke a stick at as far as the eye can see

By johnboy - 9 April 2010 3

The Brumbies are very happy to announce that with Stirling Mortlock committed to spend three years gathering rust in the Melbourne Rebels midfield the young backline stars Christian Lealiifano and Matt Toomua have decided they want to stay in Canberra despite the world class Matt Giteau’s presence in the positions they want to play.

The Melbourne raised Lealiifano was considered by many to be a done deal for the Rebels.

Both have expressed Wallabies ambitions and apparently don’t see Melbourne as the place to further that aspiration.

Actually I think Giteau is one of the few people that thinks he IS a flyhalf.

I realise that I’m in the minority, but my view is that Giteau is not a fly half.
His best position is at 12 with a good passing 10 inside him. When he plays at 10, he is continually edging across-field away from his half back before he gets the ball. No wonder Valentine can’t get it to him.

Toomua is, in my view, the best option for the Brumbies at 10. His first instinct is to pass and, although not in the Larkham class just yet, shares many of his subtle passing traits.
Also, on the little evidence shown this season, his defence has improved significantly.

Off-topic, but I’m also mighty impressed with what I’ve seen from McCabe on the wing.
