I have to say that that is one helluva fancy looking bad-arse Ted-Nugent rock-n-roll sex-kitten of a bow. As a gun guy, I’ve never really understood the whole bow thing, but now I’m almost jealous. My sympathy to the guy who had such a sweet piece of kit ripped off by the vermin, and I hope it finds its way home.

Have you ever had a go at Archery at all? I did it at Borambola as a kid & it was fantastic fun. I have always yearned to have another go, especially for hunting but the cost has out me off ( a rimfire .22 can be had relatively cheaply).

If I wasnt still shooting, fishing & getting back into snorkeling I think I would give it a go, trouble is my wife thinks I have too many hobbies now 🙂

We provide the equipment, first three shoots are free and we will coach you for free (we are the only club in the area that is free for beginners), friendly people and there is no political crap in the club. We are just a bunch of people who love to have fun.

A friend of mine got into it for a while but was turned off over time by the chequebook racing that he felt took a lot of the ‘fun’ out of it.

. Very few experienced archers appear to shoot without them.

Belay that. Recurve only. Few experienced recurve archers shoot without them. I like the thought of a thief cutting a forearm fillet though…

Belay that – no longbow shooter would shoot without one either.

Incidentally, where has the archery centre that used to be in Lyneham moved to?

Apparently they’re shooting with another club until the grounds are completed.

Many people shoot a bow incorrectly without instruction the first time, qbngeek. The second time they learn what an armguard is for. Very few experienced archers appear to shoot without them.

But experienced archers should just let rip.

Oddly enough, insurance statistics show that archery actually is pretty safe in terms of the results of letting arrows loose. It’s the act of hunting with them that causes more injuries and deaths. Falling from tree stands in the USA is a fairly common way of bowhunters killing and maiming themselves.

So experienced archers having been letting rip for quite some decades. Since guns outclassed them in warfare, bows have had a serious lack of occurrences in hurting people. Mind you, if the thief didn’t steal an armguard as well, they’ll probably do some damage to themselves. We can live in hope..

I’m sure as a sport it’s very safe. I was just laughing at the unintended implication in the police statement that someone who could actually aim would not be a danger. I didn’t know about the armguards.

Incidentally, where has the archery centre that used to be in Lyneham moved to?

If you manage to hit your forearm with a compound bow more than once a year than you are doing it wrong. Juniors and beginners are the only ones we have wearing armguards.

Mind you its a different story for hunters as they don’t concentrate on technique so much so they are more likely to hit their arms.

We arrived at our club on Sunday to find out our clubhouse had been broken into again. They took anything they could carry this time, even the tea and coffee 🙁

In addition to that we have heard rumours of kangaroos being shot with arrows around Jerrabomberra and have found many of the arrows stolen from us on our range, in trees and all over the joint.

Looks like archery seems to be the flavour of the month for these scumbags.

That aint AUSCAM. Looks more like US Army Woodland pattern.

The text actually says the bow is “camouflage in colour”, and that the cover is Auscam. The cover isn’t shown in the photo.

yep, US woodland. however it looks like the top photo has been taken by the owner (in auscam) and the bottom one is a file photo from the internet.
