Mother Nature Tuggeranong - Renovation or RIP?

Spotted this morning at the Hyperdome – Mother Nature is swathed in black plastic with black spray-paint advising Closed for Renovations.

I think most Tuggeranong regulars have noted that the Mother Nature here has been circling the drain for quite a while – prices went up, quality down, range reduced, registers not working properly, staff numbers cut, meat cabinets fritzed, ATM access gone and now this.

Unless the renovation includes the owners taking a good hard look at themselves, I think it this may be the last we’ll see of Mother Nature over one the Southside for a while.

Lizzy, sorry I have only just seen your post!!
My email is emily@kingstonfoods.com.au
Any contact info would be so so much appreciated.
Thank you so much!!

Been meaning to add this for a couple of days.

I walked past the Mother Nature store in the Hyperdome on Friday.
There were tradies inside painting and so on.

Something is happening, but what? Anyone know more?

Is this also something to do with the change of management of the Hyperdome, mentioned in the story about the cinemas?

Very interested if anyone does have further information.

Cheers Gillian

ATTN: KINGSTON FOODS..

Could you please post your email address and I will send you some contact details.

I wish you well in getting your money and don’t forget to include a note in relation to charging them interest on all outstanding monies.

Yes it is customers like this who create all kinds of problems for fellow business people.

Cheers.

lizzy

Kingston foods…. the owner of mother nature’s still has a shop in queanbeyan still open and word was tuggers may reopen but I don’t see this happening I wish you luck in recovering your money.

I am so not surprised that this has happened again, I briefly worked in one shop and was glad I left when I did way to many problems.

Pretty sure someone at the airport would know – for sure they’ll be hunting them too for the Brand Depot store farce.
Perhaps try the Supreme Court for info – see post 18?
It may be a lost cause, but good luck nonetheless.

I am the owner of a food wholesaling company called Kingston Foods. We were a supplier of Mother Natures, and they still owe us money. Can anyone help us with details of who the creditors are, or who I should contact about this. They were very dishonest about closing down.
Thank you so much, it customers like this that can take away our profit margin of a whole year!

There is a story in The Sunday Canberra Times (Page 3, 26 July 2009) that creditors are owed $800,000 by the owners of Mother Nature’s. The matter is before the ACT Supreme Court & (apparently) the phone number of Mother Nature’s is disconnected.

I really hope they reopen in the Hyperdome – it’s crazy that there is no F&V shop there to give the supermarkets some competition.

Luckily there are good ones at Chisholm and Erindale.

the biggest problem that the hyperdome one has is the location. would have been better to renovate the markets, make it all look modern, and put a greengrocer, deli, butcher, fisho, etc in there. oh, wait. that is what was there before the “renovation”. now, the good guys, and the other stores in there make up the totality of a space that had to be far larger than what is left. Personally, I would have preferred a market. We get our F&V at chisholm. much better, and the costs of the goods are far and away better than the cole or woolies offerings. Mother natures seems to be on the outer, but freddy frapples is coming back to cooleman court – aren’t they owned by the same group?

I work at Majura Park (near Brand Depot) and apparently the HUGE mother nature deli was supposed to be opened last Xmas but still no movement…I did hear something about financial problems within the family…A real shame because there is no supermarket nearby nor to my knowledge in Fyshwick.

I just went in there to get some Australian garlic, and it was so nice to see the place being filled up with stuff again.

There’s a Mother Nature in Queanbeyan, and it has (and still is) fantastic. Brilliant range of fresh foods, and cheap. No so good for regular groceries, but we tend to get them at Aldi anyway.

I visited the Qbn one yesterday, expecting the gutted shop it’s been for past months, but no! The deli is back open, staff were srubbing the shelves that have been lying empty, there were pallets of boxes of grocery items waiting to be shelved, a lot of the gourmet stuff is back, the fridge shelves were stocked (with umpteen sorts of bocconcini and fresh mozzaraella), teh joint was jumping. Great to see… for ages they have shrunk it back to the basic f and v, so it’s great to see it going back to its old self.

Prices were good, too. 1kg things of yogurt were cheaper than Coles, and their beef soup bones are also much cheaper than Coles.

Brilliant – great news! Thanks for the heads up.

Doesn’t surprise me that this family is on the verge of bankruptcy, isn’t the first time.

Didn’t they used to run the old Tuggeranong market place before the Hyper D extended?

The owners of mother natures are closing down all of thier shops including Batemans bay except for the new one at the airport. The owners are Iannelies. And they are almost Bankrupted

Hmmmmmmmmmmm…. Hasn’t the one at the airport been sitting there for months empty and “opening soon”

We were told by a checkout girl before it closed, that the Tugg Mother Nature was closing for renovations and that it would reopen. That was several weeks ago now.

I went to check this morning to see if it was open again and was disappointed to see no information on any notices in the windows as to what was happening.

Only possibly good sign was lights on behind the plastic.

Here’s hoping it does re-open. It was good but was let run down badly.

It’s a shame really. Would love to see the idea ran by someone with business sense. It used to be so busy. I will miss it.

dead as a dodo I would suggest

Used to be excellent – wonder what happened? I knew they were goners once their produce started to look more tired than the stuff in the supermarket.

The ‘local liquor component’ was the first to go – maybe it was unviable without those sales?

Huh?? Last time I was there (which was quite recently), they had been systematically winding it down over months (closed meat and deli section, reduction of shelf products in range and numbers etc etc). Unless they’ve resurrected the place in the last few weeks, I would have suspected it had died completely.

Too expensive and not great quality- not any better than the woolies inside really, so I never bothered. Went to Belco markets this morning though- always much better.

The one at the aiport looks RIP too. No construction has happened on it in the last 3 or so months (at a rough esitmate). Sad ‘cos I was looking forward to them opening out there and expanding their range.
