I’m guessing there are quite a number of Rioters who enjoy the plod up Mt Ainslie on the walking track leading up from the back of the War Memorial. It certainly gets very busy on occasions. I have no idea of the statistics but I would guess several thousand use the track each week.
Unfortunately the track is being allowed to slowly crumble away, particularly towards the top. This has been a slow process over a few years, but is now reaching a critical stage where injuries are a distinct threat due to the depth and location of some of the holes. Recently the steps were repaired, but it seems there’s nothing being done about the potholes and the erosion of the path edges.
I know we all have a duty of care to look out when walking but at the same time when a path is provided, there are certain expectations of at least a reasonable surface that doesn’t require constant vigilance against twisting or breaking an ankle etc..
I also suspect that the longer the path is allowed to continue deteriorating the cost of repairs will be rising exponentially so it would be in the gubmnt’s interest to deal with repairs sooner rather than later.
So, Rioters and assorted whingers, should we expect the gubmnt to be maintaining the path, or should it be allowed to disintegrate to a point where they need to build a brand new one?
