The Australian Mountain Bike National Championships are on again this weekend at Mount Stromlo. This is the third, and final year we will host the champs here, so it’s your last chance to see the crowning of our national champions for all MTB disciplines here in Canberra.

CORC (Canberra Off-Road Cyclists) are still desperate for more volunteers to help out with running the event. So if you can spare some time over the weekend, then check the CORC site for details – it will definitely give you a closer view of the action (plus you’ll get lunch and some other goodies).

It may well return, but AFAIK they have not applied to host the champs for the next three years. So MTBA will award the champs to another venue – most likely on another 3 year deal, like Stromlo had. Also, mountain biking is continuing to grow around the country, with more dedicated MTB parks like Stromlo being built (Canberra ahead of the times once again!), so I’m sure these new parks will be very keen to host the nationals & MTBA will want to share the event around.

Why the final year? I can understand that it would move around the country…but *never* to return seems a little, well, finite.
