Latest word around the traps is Phil Small has announced he’s leaving WIN.

It’s understood he’s joining the AFP after 20 years at the local tv network.

[ED – best file this under rumour until we hear more]

UPDATE: Hammo has also sent in the following:

I heard today that Phil Small has announced he’s leaving WIN News to take up a role at AFP Media… any more details?

If only AFP media could also put on a competent webmaster. But one never knows the end of Phil’s talents.

… however, SuperNeit was still disappointed (cuts to SuperNeit standing in front of a Road, who pipes “I’m disappointed!”) so lift your game, Canberra! The Queanbo police are flogging us in the points table.

This should be a good move for the AFp. Police reports will now sound more exciting, like a report on the footy.

Phil Small: And today, ACT Policing kept up a strong defence against burglaries, capturing 6 suspects. This follows from an impressive showing over the long weekend, with the blues handing out infringements and earning over 40 penalties, including one that resulted in a shoot out to determine the winner.

Ok, with fear of getting shot down, can I just say, “FINALLY.”

I have never been a fan of Phil Small’s monotonous reporting style and seemingly uninterested mic breaks.

He has served the Canberra community well and good luck to him, but personally, I won’t miss him….

+1

Couldn’t believe when returning to Canberra this year after 8 years away that he was still on WIN news; could they not find someone in that time who could change their pitch/inflection?

Though to give him credit, he doesnt seemed to have aged a hell of a lot in that time. At least on TV.

grunge-hippy, do you mean Chappo? Peter Chapman?
Used to work with him a few years ago, good bloke who loved a beer and a punt.
Had some very funny times with him whilst some others at work beg to differ.

If there’s one thing the AFP needs is a new sports journalist.

hahahahaha. that amuses me.

he is as interesting as a blank of wood. bring back that guy with the mo from the 80’s…. not robbo… some other dude who’s name escapes me.

I thought ‘joining the AFP’ meant he was going to become an actual cop. I’ve got visions of him rounding up the kiddies out the front of Mooseheads on a Saturday night

I will only miss his orange glow….
