Mt Ainslie Summit Closed - Will Anyone Think Of The Children?

ABC Online brings the startling news that a rock fall has closed the road to the summit of Mt Ainslie. I don’t like the sound of “until further notice”.

Some may seek to place blame on a lack of consultation by the gubbmint. Others will say this wouldn’t have happened if we had a light rail system. A more likely culprit is a heavy rains and possibly bad maintenance.

Those simply seeking magnificent views can still hike up from the War Memorial, but that will be of little value to Canberra’s sex-crazed teenagers with access to a car.

Do our lake shores have sufficient capacity to handle the overflow?

A funicular railway from the AWM to the summit of Mt Ainslie would be a popular tourist attraction. With an ice-cream parlour or hamburger stand at the top. And no cars allowed; amorous teenagers can go to Redhill instead, there’s more space up there.

Love the consultation / light rail angle Johnboy 🙂

On the topic of the trail up Mt Ainslie from the War Memorial though, am I the only person who finds the new memorial plaques scattered along the track somewhat inappropriate.

I mean, does the AWM own the national (territory??) park? It just seems to in some way politicise (not the right word but you get my drift) a place that was always seemed more of a sanctuary from the world or something. Where was the consultation there anyway?
