Mugga Lane resource recovery reopening

… anyone is probaly a better choice than revolve, usually crazy prices. Not for profit ? whos kidding who? they dont seem to employ anyone but family and friends. They have the ebay sales and Better bits as well, but Im sure they are making a loss :). I also bet the ratepayers will have to foot the bill for the mess they have there behind where they are now, yes thats all their mess. Its their own fault for not getting the tender (and loosing the contract years ago), the place is a mess up till tender time and didnt they own the Governmenr rent money till just before tender time?t a good way to win friends.

The ACT government have starred again. When are they going to appoint someone who is has expertise in recycling the massive amount of waste that will still go to landfill. The resource recovery centre is a good idea but it is no more than a large garage sale facility where the public give their goods for free to the operator who then disposes of them however he or she likes. One can only hope that Tiny has enough business smarts to build goodwill with the Canberra community and not go down the path of slyly selling all of the so called collectibles or interesting pieces through eBay as did REVOLVE and Aussie Junk. For those that don’t know, the back room seller who traded on behalf of REVOLVE and AJ is associated with the new operator. The seller was known as xxxx, xxxx, xxxx [ED user names censored] to name a few, and listed the sales location as Southern Highlands, Acton or SE NSW with no local pickup allowed. The latter was futher insult to Canberrans who now had to pay delivery costs through Australia Post for items purchased rather than collect the goods the next time they were at the facility, either dropping off unwanted items or shopping through the front door. I say to Tiny, engage the Canberra community, treat them with respect and they will build the business; the long lines of vehicles headed for the transfer station may start dropping off at your door on the way past. Adopt REVOLVE and AJ business principles and suffer the inevitable.

Revolve has never been owned by the ACT govt. They are a not for profit business run by a board of directors. The ACT govt shafted them back in June 2007. Ok the Govt owned the facility, but Revolve owned the business and the “goodwill”. Everyone has their own views on Revolve, but they started the whole concept of scabbing at the tip and selling the stuff to make a wage – keeping locals employed. What is wrong with that? They have obviously proved that they know what it is all about cause they are still going strong on the recycling estate down the road, while the others have gone bust!! Its obvious that the wider Canberra community supports Revolve more, their yard is chockers, even though the big green shed is open to receive items.I took some furniture to Revolve on the weekend and you could hardly get you car around the yard. looks like good business management to me!! Long live Revolve!!

I thought it belonged to the ACT govt and Revolve were tenants who were contracted and paid for the job, and got the land and facilities rent free?

If you go to the Revolve website (http://www.revolveact.org.au) you will see it does not mention the management team. The management team that lost to Aussie Junk had previously run the Koomarri Warehouse operation recycling clothes etc. Koomarri finally bit the bullet and closed it down when it realised the long term management in the recycling area did not have a good grasp of reality. Its good to see the tradition continues at Revolve.

Is this “Rods ‘n Tackle” Tiny?

I have known Tiny for nearly 20 years.

He was actually one of the early managers of the original Revolve in the late 80’s early 90’s & helped turn it into a going concern. He was a part of updating their vehicle fleet, premises & a number of other projects that turned Revoleve into what we saw until the tender was released by the ACT Governement.

If anyone can get that recyling facility up & running again, it will be Tiny.

The original Revolve has not moved on with the times & does not seem to be well managed, its time to move on.

And Revolve were again one of the tenderers and again unsuccessful…
