When two long-time Canberra friends accidentally doubled up buying their regular Oz Lotto tickets, it netted them the only division one in Australia from the draw on Tuesday (21 April).

The former work colleagues will share a life-changing windfall of $2,289,010.50.

The friends of more than 20 years usually save their winnings for a Christmas lunch or shopping spree, but said Christmas this year will be “a little different”.

One of the women told an official from the Lotto that the lucky ticket was purchased by mistake.

“We take turns buying Oz Lotto tickets every week.

“It wasn’t even my turn this week, I mistakenly bought the ticket thinking it was my week. I’m so glad I did,” she said.

“You dream of this day happening and now it has, I really have no idea how I will enjoy my prize.

“We will both use it to really enjoy our retirement and I am sure we will be sharing it with our families.”

The winning six-game ticket was purchased at Waramanga Newsagency, with owner Shova Choudry saying it was a happy day at the outlet.

“I was so excited and very happy this morning when we discovered we’d sold this incredible prize!” Ms Choudry said.

“We’ve sold quite a few division one winning entries over the year.”

For the record, the winning numbers were 13, 11, 16, 34, 23, 28 and 39. The supplementary numbers were 21 and 8.

The win follows that of a Goulburn woman who won $100,000 in Tuesday’s Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot.
