Police have launched a search for a prisoner who absconded while on a work release program in the state’s south this afternoon.
Cooma Correctional Centre inmate Adam Bowhay, 34, was with two other inmates at Snowy Oval in Cooma as part of a local work release program early this afternoon (Tuesday 26 February).
He fled the area around 1.15pm and has not been seen since.
Bowhay is serving a sentence of 23 years for a murder in 1997.
Police from Monaro Local Area Command have mounted a major search of the area involving local resources.
The public is being urged not to approach the man but to instead contact Triple Zero immediately.
Bowhay is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 184cm tall, medium/large build, bald head and clean shaven. He has tattoos around his neck, upper arm and legs.
He was last seen wearing work gear which consists of a fluorescent yellow shirt and blue and green ‘King Gee’ brand long pants.
