Late news I know but this weekend saw is the annual Murrumbateman Moving Feast. What is the Murrumbateman Moving Feast? Well it is a Food and Wine festival. Today is the last day, it being held over the Saturday and Sunday, with 11 wineries local to the Murrumbateman area serving entrée size mains (@ $15) and/or sweets (@ $10) matched with their pick of wines (you get to keep the glass – we ended up wit ha full set).
Between 10 and 2 there is also the Cool Climate Wine Show Public Tasting at the Murrumbateman Recreation Hal where for $10 there are 500 wines on offer to taste (I was driving but even my companion didn’t get through them all).
My pick of the day…
Yass Valley Wines (Crisps Lane Murrumbateman) was serving the most moist and delicious Orange and Sticky Date Pudding with Orange Butterscotch Sauce I have ever tasted. Such warm flavour and perfect with their own Muscat. The Moroccan Chicken they were serving for their main also sounded great although we had had our mains elsewhere so didn’t try it. The Crisps Lane Café, part of the winery, has a great little outdoor eating area with the most beautiful view over the vineyards although on a cool day like yesterday the indoor area with it’s fire was a happy substitute.
Other highlights was tasting Clonakilla Winery’s Shiraz Viognier. At $75 a bottle it isn’t cheep and well out of my price range (worth doing a google search for other reviews – wine tasters rave about it!) but it was magical. Also at Clonakilla was a bloke down from Sydney by the name of Dave selling Golden Cobra Coffee, his own little coffee blend. The best I’ve had and it would be good if more places in Canberra could serve coffee of this calibre.
Greystones Winery is well worth visiting for it’s PinkIce Wine and Jeir Creek make a wonderful Sparkling Shriaz.
