My Joker Face. Images of Canberra

On Flemington Road in Franklin, a public artwork has experienced a slight touch up.

In my haste to grab a photo, I didn’t actually bother reading the plaque, so I have no idea of its original purpose or meaning (if anyone does, I would love to know). I mean, was it there to instill nightmares into commuters? Someone think of the children!

In any case, my husband and I speculate that it now has a simple question for Canberra – why so serious?

It’s not the public art that Canberra wanted, but the public art that Canberra needed.

Certainly Gaga herself would approve – Mah-mah-mah-my Joker Face, my Joker Joker Face.

Enjoy 🙂

See, if that was with a water based paint, you could see it, applaud, and then no harm no foul with the next storm or TAMS employee equipped with a gurney.

But since it hasn’t been up more than a year, it’d be sad if it were something permanent requiring substantial remedial works.

This was the “before” shot. and this is the other one in Canberra by the same artist.

They are both really cool

Like most graffiti, this ain’t particularly clever or skilled. Highlights the talent of the sculptor. Hope the paint comes off that bronze real easy.

My kids like to call her “bus stop Betty”. We have never stopped to look though.
I must say that I never thought it could be made to look any more ugly….I was wrong.

Not that there is anything wrong with it being hideously scary. She looks like she escaped from prison with the striped top and she is greeting you with flowers in one hand a a knife in the other!

Can we think of another name for these excreta other than “public art”? Calling the ludicrous items dropped around Canberra “art” gives them a validity they do not deserve.

I’m for “Stanhope Object”

I like this new enhanced version better

Terrible. I actually like that public art, it’s quirky and cool.

Plus it looks like Mrs. Overlord, or should I say it did look like…

Disappointing, I rather liked that one.

I imagine the repair cost is probably in the thousands.
