I have to challenge the fc comment as it is owned by my bro-in-law, I would suggest she isnt rusty – would you repaint the mona lisa just because she is old? I wonder if the merc will last 47 years in the same family….

I can report almost live from this event, having just returned.

The highlight was undoubtedly the Telopea Park Primary orchestra playing spirited renditions of Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on the Water’, followed by the Queen classic ‘Another One Bites the Dust’. I was very pleased by this, having hung around for half an hour prior while they tuned their instruments in between long periods of silence. For a horrible moment, it seemed that they had commenced playing a piece by John Cage.

Anyway, the sausages were sizzling, the plant stall was well worth a look, and the bookstall run by the local volunteer library had some excellent bargains. I got a copy of ‘The Slap’, read perhaps once, for $2. There was a forlorn box of Marxist tomes which must have been donated by a disillusioned or deceased leftie that everyone ignored in favour of My Little Pony videos and a fine selection of crime novels.

An original (complete with rust) FC Holden was parked next to a latest model Merc., surrounded by battered Mazdas and Camrys. Discombobulated adults with challenging behaviours and/or vacant expressions mingled with Yummy Mummies and their haunted and nervous looking spouses and cheerful children. The local drunks smiled benignly on it all.

A good time was being had by everyone. Hope they make a few $$ for the various causes.
