A man who climbed a tree to evade talking to police was arrested and charged for calling the ACT Ambulance Service unnecessarily.

The 40-year-old Narrabundah man is alleged to have contacted ACT Ambulance Service around 8.10am, requesting an ambulance to a location in Griffith. Police attended the location as well due to a report of a disturbance.

Investigations led police to the man’s Narrabundah home around 12.50pm. When police attended, he became argumentative and shortly after climbed a nearby tree.

Due to concerns for the man as the tree branch was overhanging the road, the road was closed off for a short time while police negotiated with him to come down.

About 2.15pm the man came down from the tree where he was arrested and taken to the ACT Regional Watch House where he was charged with Give false alarm of fire, emergency or other. He was later released and will attend the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

The person is a serial pest that is well known to emergency services for hoaxes and has mental health issues so their hands are tied. It is a complex issue and a competent ACT mental health must better manage his behaviour. If he can be directed by good case management he will not indulge in such anti-social behaviour. He must obey the law and not hide behind Human Rights legalism. The point is to have him managed by a MH team rather than a police team.

Well said.

Should have shot him in the neck!

Air Force marksmanship training at work here. Behind the ear would be better.

Oh my, the court case will be a laugh. What on earth could the defence say about him climbing the tree?

Was he dressed in clothes made out of curtains? Perhaps he sung for them when he came down?

They closed a road because a man climbed a tree???

Were they worried he’d fall onto the Narrabundah highway?

It’s lucky I managed not to close my entire block when I was a kid!

“as the tree branch was overhanging the road,”

The language is called English. Comprehension of it is a bit of a prerequisite around these parts
