Natalie Howson takes over Community Services

Joy Burch has announced that the acting Director-General of the Community Services Directorate, Natalie Howson, has been given the nod to take over permanently:

Ms Howson has been Deputy Chief Executive/Deputy Director-General of the Community Services Directorate since January 2011, and acting Director-General since April 2012.

“I have worked closely with Ms Howson for almost two years, and during this time she has shown compassion, leadership and strategic direction, across some of the most challenging areas in Government,” Ms Burch said.

“These qualities have been particularly evident in the time that Ms Howson that has been acting Director-General, since April, and I am immensely pleased that Ms Howson has accepted the offer to take up this position permanently.”

Ms Howson began her career as a high school teacher and specialist in drug education. Her executive career in both the ACT and Commonwealth public services spans nearly 20 years and includes senior roles in human services.

While in the Community Services Directorate, Ms Howson has overseen significant reforms to the care and protection system, the youth justice system, and overseen preparations for the National Disability Insurance Scheme trial in the ACT.
