National Australia Bank in Woden robbed.

Apparently the intelligencia of Canberra struck this morning at the NAB in Woden (near the doors that used to empty out onto the old fountain fore court). Dye packs were activated close to fifty metres away from the bank, and the police and the good folks from Westfield have been contending with ‘concerned citizens’ (read: rubber necks) for most of this morning.

Amongst the usual plethora of speculation, there are several reliable reports of some poor bugger getting stabbed for getting in road. I hope that individual is all good.

*******
ED (Ntp) – hingo had also submitted the following under the heading “AFP section off area at Westfield Woden”:

I just returned from lunch at Westfield Mall where I noticed Police had marked off an area on the second level just above Donut King (to the left of the escalators). I saw at least 6 police officers guarding the area but did not bother to go up and have a look. A colleague of mine who was there earlier says he saw large patches of something red which he thought looked like blood and there was an ambulance outside.

Anyone know what is going on?

Seems S4anta does 😉

That’s right, but immediately after the 9.30pm movie starts they’d be consolidating cash rather than dropping – at 10 to 15 bucks a ticket and 100 or more people having just paid… well, you do the maths.

Like I said, there are easier ways to make a couple of thousand bucks.

Most cinemas (and most retail outlets I’d venture) take cash drops throughout the night to ensure the maximum in the till never exceeds a certain amount.

now, now lets not give another MO to crazy chester.

If I were going to commit an armed holdup (which I wouldn’t – there are easier ways to get money), I reckon I’d take off a large movie cinema. At 9.30pm there’s a couple of spotty teenagers around, and lots of people pay in cash. Wouldn’t be too hard to disappear into the night afterwards.

was that the one where they hung in the roof spce for a bit, then surprised the morning staff by nearly falling on top of them andy?

Apparently stan, someone got a bit of a nip by getting in the road of fuelled up, knife wielding ice junkie as he was tearing out of the place

> Actually mr bands, Westfield Woden…

It has been since it was built & always will be known as Woden Plaza…no matter what the “official” name is.

How stupid are these people ? Noone (well, very few people) ever gets away with holding up banks.
It DOES, however, bring to mind the armed holdup at Belco, outside the CBA years and years back, possibly even 10 years ago..
That wasn’t a bank though.. and ttbomk, they got away with that one..

It’s been known as “Woden Plaza” forever. Westfield keep trying to change it. I have no idea why, as it seems to me that a ‘known brand’ works for you.

But what do I know?

I’m not sure about the reports of a stabbing — the red dye on the ground surrounding the cash looked pretty similar to blood and may have fuelled a bit of speculation.

actually mr bands, Westfield Woden…

My mistake. Same shit, different smell.

Westfield Mall???? IT’S WODEN PLAZA!

Thanks for posting that! I was actually going to go to the NAB today. I only work in Woden and only go over there for lunch. I have never been on the second level. I was going to find the NAB today to get my internet pin reset, lucky I didn’t bother.
