National Medal winning emergency workers

Simon Corbell has today announced the winners of the National Medal for emergency service workers.

The National Medal was established on 14 February 1975 as one of the original elements
of the distinctive Australian system of honours and awards. The Governor-General awards
the National Medal, with nominations made by the Chief Officer of the nominee service.

Mr Corbell presented 14 National Medals, 12 First Clasps and one second and third clasp.

    Ambulance Service:

    — Glenn Noonan, National Medal
    — Louise Smith, National Medal
    — Fenji Stradwick, National Medal
    — Stewart Barnetson, 1st Clasp
    — David Foot, 1st Clasp
    — Catherine Stephenson, 1st Clasp
    — Howard Wren, 1st Clasp

    Fire Brigade:

    — Peter Coble, National Medal
    — Jeffrey Yates, National Medal
    — Richard Campion, 1st Clasp
    — Barry McMillan, 1st Clasp
    — Ian Moore, 1st Clasp
    — Frayne Prichard, 1st Clasp

    Rural Fire Service:

    — Peter Beutel, National Medal
    — Matthew Bolton, National Medal
    — Shane Lenson, National Medal
    — Nicholas Lhuede, National Medal
    — Matthew Luther, National Medal
    — Phillip Kleine, 1st Clasp
    — Ian Taylor, 1st Clasp
    — David Wassall, 1st Clasp
    — David Tunbridge, 2nd Clasp

    State Emergency Service:

The National Medal, also known as the Parramatta medal. The one you get for showing up for 15 years.

Meaningless….and before you ask I was sent mine in the mail 10 years ago. Real medals are awarded for extraordinary acts, not just turning up and fulfilling your role description
