National Museum spoils Victoria's Phar Lap party

Horsetalk.co.nz is down in the weeds of Canberra’s National Museum playing party pooper to efforts in Victoria to unite the relics of Phar Lap.

The poor horse should have been buried at the post at Flemington.

Instead New Zealand’s Te Papa Tongarewa has the skeleton, the Melbourne Museum has the hide, and the National Museum in Canberra has the heart.

Victoria was trying to get them all together for an exhibition which would have well and truly hoovered up the bogan bucks.

Sadly the boffins here in Canberra have declared the heart to be too fragile to move:

The National Museum of Australia said the request to loan the heart was declined because research indicated there would be an extreme risk of damage during transit.

“Phar Lap’s heart is in an extremely fragile condition and the risk of damage to the organ from shock and vibration associated with transport is considerable,” the museum’s director, Andrew Sayers, said.

It’ll be a while before the Victorians share their toys with us now.

Heartbreaking that won’t go ahead.

Why do they have to re-unite his various body parts? Are they trying to bring him back to life in time for the Melbourne Cup?

Who? Phar Lap or His Chiefliness?

As consolation, I’m more than happy for the Chief Minister’s heart to be sent over instead.

They want a horses heart, not a horses arses heart…

The Chief Minister has a heart?

must…. resist… obvious…

Wouldn’t be much to share with anyone if the heart fell apart during transport. Canberra got the dud end of the object stick with the hardest part of Phar Lap to preserve. We should swap the heart for the easier to maintain skeleton…

As Johnboy said, bury the poor bugger. It is no way to treat a national icon.

They could just unite the hide and skeleton with the heart in Canberra, couldn’t they?
