The Canberra Times reports that the Joint Standing Committee on National Capital and External Territories has had harsh words for the National Capital Authority’s high handed approach to implementing its laughably named “Griffin Legacy”. The Committee’s report is online for those who are interested.

But the developers and Simon Corbell have signed off on it, so don’t go thinking there’s anything either the little people or Senators and MPs can do about it.

Simbo everything was way better then – mostly due to the Feds having plenty of dollars.

And it was funny as well watching federal education ministers having to appear at closing schools and roads ministers being petitioned for more footpaths in Campbell etc. Probably why they cast us off, but anyway…

At least the roads were good then (as they also say about hitler….)

Not too late to put your comments into the Albert Hall region.

I went today to the brifing at the National Capital Exhibition at Regatta Point. A beaut light show on a diorama of central Canberra. It is too late to change the plans on getting rid of the clover leafs on Commonwealth and Kings Ave because Parliament decided on the changes in 2001.

However, the NCA is willing to at least pretend to listen to what you think with regards to set backs and building heights around Albert Hall. Do you want another roller coaster National Museum like building beside Albert Hall? Well say so. Do you want a building between the National Library and the lake? Well again say so.

A careful reminder to those who wish to go back to the days when we didn’t have self-goverment – the NCA and our Territories Minster would be the people running the whole city instead.

So the other side of the fence isn’t necessarily that much better…

I really hate the vision articulated in the griffen legacy. And got the vibe early in the piece that calls for consulation would be as well regarded as Simon Corbell

Federal Territories Minister Jim Lloyd was on tele last night saying “We’re going to push on with this” and quoted in CT as saying “It’s something we need to get on with, if any of these draft amendments are disallowed it would put the project back by six to 12 months.”

Which is basically shorthand for “take your calls for consultation and shove them somewhere painful.”
It is not acceptable that such a significant chunk of our town’s planning is in the hands of these people who do not have to answer to the community that they inflict their half-cocked ideas on.
