NCA creates an inner wheel

The National Capital Authority is seeking to create a register of stakeholders:

The NCA is calling for groups that have an interest in the work of the Authority to nominate themselves to the register. Groups that the NCA are encouraging to sign up to the register include:

— community/resident associations;
— professional associations;
— industry groups;
— heritage groups; and
— community interest groups.

Apparently somewhere on their website is a mechanism for registering.

This is not intended to replace community consultation, they say.

(There’s also a new media release on a community engagement outline.)

My advice to community groups is not to rush in and sign up.

The NCA has had a long-standing policy to ignore any and all community input into its planning processes (at least ACTPLA goes through a charade of doing so), and this culture is well-ingrained.

All that NCA will do is suck you in, drain you dry, and spit you out at the end. You’ll end up angry, frustrated and disillusioned. Then you’ll give up, and leave them alone, which is exactly what they want.

A brilliant stragey, one that ACTPLA (and PALM before it) has used to great effect.
