NCA tries to keep Canberrans from the coast

ABC Online has a report on the National Capital Authority’s plans to keep people in Canberra over the summer.

From what I saw in the TV bulletin they think a program of concerts by the lake will be more enticing to Canberrans than sun, surf and seafood down at the coast.

I’m sure those of us who DO get stuck here of a weekend will be glad of the entertainment.

The program is here. But be warned there’s a pile of the pissweak in there for the odd gem.

The fact is they can’t stop people going to the coast… that is just silly… it’s one of the many reasons to live in australia….. they need to focus on drawing people here… people would travel for a kickarse music festival, like they do for summer nats and flowerfest 2000 the directors cut… so I vote for that.. more national quality events and people will stay.. and even maybe come….

Mael, I like the jazz at the Botanic Gardens (good music, opportunity to dance) and I adore the coast but since I can’t spend my entire holidays there, the events in Canberra are nice.

I have a theory. Anything that has the soft and cuddly Mix106 mob sponsoring things, will be a bit suss unless you wear a crouchet shawl and your hair is dyed purple.

Dunno about that. Jazz-fests at the coast are also fun.

To be honest, I cant really see the kind of people who would normally hang out at a Botanic Gardens jazz-fest being coastally inclined in the first place…

“Moves” at Jamo pool sounds a lot more interesting, Kerces. Even I would abandon my Guerilla Bay beachside mansion for that…

sorry, movies at Jamo pool

Wonder if they see themselves as competing with Urban Services’ round town program, which also involves music and movies, but in Civic mainly.

Also there’s the Botanic Gardens jazz on Saturdays and other music on Sundays all summer. And often moves at Jamo pool.

Really there’s lots going on here through summer if you know where to look; I’m not entirely convinced we need a whole other program as well.
