The ABC reports that the 2003 bushfires judgment Chief Justice Higgins has been working on for the last year will no longer be needed as the plaintiffs have reached a settlement with the ACT Government.
Chief Justice Terence Higgins reserved his judgment last November, saying he would make no promise about when he would deliver his decision.
Now the law firm Stacks, which represents about 100 plaintiffs, has settled with the ACT and NSW governments.
The settlement payments are currently confidential.
That means the ACT Government is no longer involved in the long-running legal case.
Claims against the NSW Government, however, go on.
