Need to hire a room for a party.

Hi All,

I’ve searched old threads but nothing came up that matched what I was looking for, I’ve also done plenty of google searches and come up empty.

I’m organising a 50th for a good friend, I want to hire a function room/hall, but not one attached to a club etc

I have alcohol organised through a 3rd party microbrewery so using a room attached to a licensed venue is out of the question.

Something with fridges and kitchen facilities would be great that could hold up to 80-100 people.

Central Canberra to Queanbeyan would be acceptable.

Anyone know of something that could be an option?

Thanks all been away for work all week, some good options there 🙂

YMCA YAcht Club at Yarralumla or
There is also a place opposite TGA on Narrabundah Lane that is a great stand alone venue. I tried looking on Google maps and could only find “Mugga Mugga” but I’m not sure if that is the name of it?

I would also suggest Scout halls as an option.

+ 1 for Tuggers Community Centres. We used the Bonython one last year. Nice and modern. Not in your locale tho.

Jerrabomberra Community Centre. It’s fantastic. Commercial kitchen, big function room, outdoor verandah and last time I hired it, albeit some years ago, cheap.

Majura Hall in Dickson probably ticks all your criteria.

The Tuggeranong Community Centre worked pretty well for us recently.

Was for a wedding after party with a little under a hundred guests. They have a nice big kitchen, fridges, etc. Not a club, and certainly not the prices that clubs want for room hire either!

You could check out the community hall in Cook. I think you can make bookings thru one of the organisations at the Cook Community Hub (aka the old school), Companion House. Give them a call on (02) 6251 4550.

Scout halls are also a good idea. One thing worth checking is if organisations have noise restrictions or if you have to leave by a certain time. From memory you have to be out of Corroborree Park hall by midnight (which can act as a good incentive to get people to leave!).

Not sure if you can still do this, but some years ago we hired the Scout’s Hall at O’Connor for our work Christmas Party. Not sure how many it held, but it certainly had kitchen facilities. There are probably other Scout Halls around town.

Hi

If you need lighting or sound for the event let me know. I have my own DJ mob here in Canberra.
As for locations, I have done quite a few jobs at the Queanbeyan racecourse, and also the yarralumla woolshed. Both reasonably sized.
