ACT Policing arrested three men aged in their 20s in Belconnen last night (Thursday, November 22) after a confrontation in which one man armed himself with a pair of scissors, forcing officers to draw a firearm and a Taser.

Members from Belconnen General Duties and the Specialist Response Group (SRG) responded to the address after a report of a disturbance involving up to 10 people. Police entered the Belconnen unit and quickly identified three aggressive men, who appeared to be the instigators of the disturbance.

ACT Policing will allege shortly after two officers entered the unit, two of the three men rushed past police and attempted to seal off the exit to the unit. Police called for urgent assistance and attempted to negotiate with the offenders without success.

Given the aggressive manner of the men, police had fears for the safety of the unit’s other occupants. Two of the three men grabbed an officer, forced him into the stairwell where tried to close the front door. The officer then had to forcibly regain entry and deploy OC stray in order to re-enter the unit.

While other officers arrived in support, the officer inside the unit was threatened by a man with a pair of scissors. A Taser and a firearm were drawn by the officers, and the offender complied.

Three men, aged 21, 23 and 25-years-old respectively, were arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House where they were all charged with common assault and obstruct territory public official. The 25-year-old was also charged with possess offensive weapon. The men will appear before the ACT Magistrates Court today.

One would have to commit a serious crime in this country before one could be deported as a non-citizen.Being charged with common assault and obstruct official wouldn’t obviously cut it.

I saw a news item on TV a few years ago about some career hoodlum who’d arrived in Australia as a bub. Unfortunately for him, what with being so busy burgling etc, he’d neglected to take out citizenship, so when the beak eventually realised what has happening the dude was shipped back to Bumphuqistan quicker than you can say “But YerHonor I Don’t Speak the Language!”.

So there he was on the tube, sitting disconsolately on a street somewhere looking sorry for himself and not getting much sympathy from the local yokels. After considering at length whether I should feel sympathy for him, I decided that would be a waste of a very scarce resource and laughed like a drain instead.

My comment was not at all in attack to ward the police, i have no problem with the way they decided to do their job, and i am in fact very thankful they do their job as well as they do here in Canberra. I will prop the police in this town forever and a day.

My offense was taken from the deport comment.. yeh i do sometimes have a bit of a bleeding heart, it doesn’t mean i do not live in the real world, and it doesn’t mean i would allow everyone to just be an asshole. It means that sometimes people from these backgrounds do act like animals.. and part of me stops and thinks ” well if i was in that position, i might not turn out the nicest person)
A violent crime was once committed against me, so i in no way defend any criminals, and i am with you PostalGeek when you say you would get rid of all of them not just the ” new aussies” (apologies for thinking it was angled toward the foreign)

i just take every criminal for the case they have, and war trauma is a way more real excuse, than – i grew up in a govy house in charnwood, and i didn’t get a play station… don’t you??

Actually, when I said any nationality, I meant any nationality, including Australians.

I’d happily swap a Real Australian recidivist pile of dung for an earnest refugee anyday. Why should a decent man who would give all to work and raise his family peacefully in Australia rot in an crappy offshore detention centre when native-born violent welfare dregs kissed by the lottery of life live it up at everyone else’s expense.

Living in this country is a privilege, a privilege that should be revoked and passed on to someone better if you prove to be a menace to others.

But unfortunately that’s not the way the world works…

So we just forget they (if in fact they were BORN IN the Sudan – because we have some here that were not, but are Canberra born) do we forget what they came from? Do you really expect every single person that were born into war, poverty, torture, that they would come out normal individuals? Did you think for one second that they might need some help adjusting?

Anybody with half an ounce of sense knows that you don’t get stabby with The Man, no matter where you come from. So if they’re local rubbish then they’re our problem. If they’re imported rubbish then I’d be happy to return them to their place of origin.

Assuming they are recent arrivals (and there’s no proof of that of course), what law of nature says we have to put up with this sort of crap? I’m happy to have people of any race/religion/whatever come here, as long as they behave decently and work to benefit our society.

Where shall we deport them to? – Also did I miss the point where it says they were not Australian born? It doesn’t mention anything like that as far as I can see.

Nauru, initially. As part of a refugee exchange program. Swap dregs for law-abiding citizens. Then export the dregs to whatever war zone their counterpart fled. Give them the violence they so obviously crave. Any nationality residing in Australia can put their hand up for this cultural exchange.

Did you think for one second that they might need some help adjusting? you can not just dump people back on Naru and then pick another – this isn’t the fucking pound people! – God forbid we ever need help as a nation… because truthfully, with all this disgusting and blatant evil i have seen from Australians recently( not only from here) – if i were another country, id let us die with no help, how putrid of you all, you really care about someone other than yourselves.

Canberra has it better than most states on this country, and still you all whinge and don’t want to share.

holly sh*t mate, get out of your protected, insulated, pretend world and try and see how things how they really are.

yes these people may be born into “war, poverty, torture” and “they might need some help adjusting”. but how much help can we give them? how about they say thank you, as opposed to trying to stab our police officers who are just trying to do their job?

it constantly amazes me that we, as a society, are expected to “forgive” certain people for their actions due to their possible difficult upbringing.

we all need to take responsibility and be accountable for our actions, regardless of who we are

I don’t give a piece of shite where they came from. They are here now.

So they can just say thank-you to Australia for accepting hem as a refugee and then start contributing to the community.

A hotel, a pub, a library, a school, a bus, a shopping centre, can all eject people who refuse to follow the rules.

A nation should be able to do the exact same thing.

If you attempt to attack a police for no reason other than showing up to a reported disturbance, then yes you deserve to be deported. Just because bad things have happened to you does not mean you get to act like a POS.

Harebrained behaviour by a motley crew who need to be cut down to size.

If people are willing to do this to armed police, could you imagine what would happen if officers didn’t carry weapons as people were suggesting the other day?

That’s crazy.

Would the beak impose a longer sentence for pinking shears…

Dumb asses. What exactly do you think they were planning to do to the officer. Too bad the loser with the scissors was not brassed up for his acts of toughness .

Taser, rock scissors? Unfortunately scissors don’t cut tasers.

Sounds to me like the cops brought guns to a scissor-fight.

Another good excuse to bulldoze the Illarwarra Flats while all occupants are still in residence.

Good work ACTP. I hope magistrates deal with the alleged offenders with the seriousness this deserves.

Cue the grammar police!
Good effort from the cops again though….
