New cemetery on the cards

This story from the ABC

“The ACT Government is considering a new cemetery for Canberra and is expected to make a decision within months.

…a fourth cemetery in Canberra’s south is being discussed as a possibility”

Maybe they could roll this project in with the search for the Data Center site.

My only concern about trainee doctors having access to my parts is the scenario where the Uni students decide to play jokes on each other and leave bits laying around campus. I saw a interesting male bit poking out of a coin return of a public phone once.

Rest assured, if a student was caught doing that, they would be hauled over the coals these days. The days of student pranks involving cadavers are largely long gone. There is still the essential amount of black humour shown in anatomy classes, but disrespectful use of bodies or prosections is very much frowned upon (both for ethical/moral and OH&S reasons). Some medical schools have adopted annual “thanksgiving” services for the people who have donated their bodies and encourage their students to attend – it’s actually quite a nice way of acknowledging the gift people have made for the learning of others.

I am happy to donate everything to the organ donor program, have registered and told my family so everyone is aware of my thoughts.

Good on you. I wish more people would do this!

For me, use whatever they can for transplants and then ‘dispose of container thoughtfully’ please. I just want them to they make sure I’m dead before they bury/burn etc. whatever’s left of me. I have this irrational fear of being buried or cremated while still alive!

I want to be on Bones.

I find the whole idea of burying a body quite wasteful. It has a lot of potential uses… and you certainly have no more use for it.

There is a general lack of cadavers in Australia for potential doctors to learn on, and there is certainly a scarcity of organs that can save life.

I have made sure that all of my family know that on my demise, everything that can be transplanted is saved and taken away. Although with my lifestyle, its probably only going to be my cornea that are useful.

What is left can go to a training university, a medical school, an instructional morgue or whatever. Even if it only shows them what a liver that has been abused looks like.

I’ll be dead… so I don’t care. And hopefully it will help someone else.

Funny enough I think you will find that the site for proposed new cemetery is actually fairly close to the proposed power station site, in the general vacinity of Hume. At least they will have room to bury all the whinging macarthur residents now lol

dead money if you ask me.

If I die in some abnormal way I want to be a guest of Dr Gunter – of the “Anatomy for Beginners” fame. I reckon a whole series titled “How did they die?” would be a ratings winner!

Ingee, if your roadside location is to be at Long Gully Road where the Data Centre is proposed, you will have plenty of competition for the attention of our local crows. As I ran the lusty V twin down there this morning enasive action was required to miss the carcass of a big roo that was left in the middle of road after meeting it’s end. Unfortunately I wasn’t lucky enough to miss a crow that was too involved with the eye pecking to hear me coming. The little f#ucker cost me a new windscreen and a new pair of undies.

LOL! (re the new pair of undies comment)

I thought that crows were smarter than that.

maybe the V-Twin was too quick…. Maybe that’s how I get rid of the ones in my area.

look, just get the ACT Govt to create a nowaste bin for tissue disposal. (with optional chainsaw and mop up towels….)

when I am dead, I won’t really care what happens to my corpse.

I thought people were dying to get out of Canberra?

Hanging corpses from the crossbars of the power poles along Canberra Ave should ready your for the emotional impact of seeing “You are now entering Queanbeyan”.

Hmm maybe we can start putting corpses up in the trees between Queanbeyan and Bungendore instead of stuffed toys…..

I don’t get the whole planting dead people thing. When I go I want to be left out on the side of a road somewhere so the crows can peck my eyes out.
