Simon Corbell has announced he’s kicking off the Development Variation process for two new combined fire and ambulance stations:

“The proposed variations to the Territory Plan will bring emergency services stations closer to the communities that they serve, and provide for quicker response times from ambulance and fire and rescue,” Mr Corbell said.

“Territory Plan draft variations 315 and 316 will allow for new stations to be built in Aranda and Tuggeranong, on the border of Calwell and Conder,”

“Both sites are on unleased Territory land, however the changes to the Territory Plan and its site specific codes and policies are required to allow emergency service use of the land.”

The new station locations were chosen late last year after an extensive site selection process which was based on commissioned research by a UK specialist emergency service modelling organisation. These new locations will enable the Emergency Services Agency to better service the needs of the community.

Both relocations, though in the case of Belconnen it is splitting with a new station to be built at Charnwood (along with relocating the fire station). Also don’t think the issue is the land, think you will find the issue is the stations have come to end of life and rebuilding and combining is the best way forward. So good to see.

Moving i think it was on here a while back

So are these additional to the ones in Tuggeranong and Belconen town centres – or are we just moving them to cheaper land so the existing ones can be sold off?
