New GP Southside?

With yet another family practice in Canberra’s South closing (Chifley Family Practice – moving to Ochre Health in Calwell) I was wondering if anyone had any information on Medical Centres in the Weston/Weston area?

I know that Waramanga Medical Centre is taking new patients and I’ve heard Fisher Family Practice are also, but I’d like to consider all my options so if anyone can give me a hand it would be much appreciated! Thanks 🙂

Thanks everyone, I went into Waramanga Med Centre, they are definately taking on new patients! Hooray! I saw the link to their website – http://www.waramangamedicalcentre.com.au for those who are interested, and I have an appointment booked in the near future. Apparently they have at least 3 Dr’s taking new patients, 2 males and a female.. so looks like they could get some people through the door (the receptionist mentioned that they have been getting a lot of new people in the last 3-4 weeks in particular, even though their books have been open for over 6 months!) Good luck to everyone else!

Good luck. I – like geetee – simply use the Phillip medical centre, as I phoned approximately 18 different surgeries in the Woden/Weston area and no one was taking new patients. Yes you have to wait, but I’ve found all doctors (bar one) to be really quite good.

My family goes to Hughes Family Practice, can highly recommend them if they’re taking new patients.

Considering how difficult it is to find a practice taking on new patients, it may be worth going in and having a chat with the reception staff – you should get a good sense of the place from that. Although, that’s no help if the Dr is dodgy!

Don’t forget, some people just clash, you may not like someone who came highly recommended by Rioters.

Good luck!

Good luck. A while back I rang around pretty much every surgery around Weston and the answer from all was ‘we’re not taking new patients’..

Although I don’t find it especially convenient, I’ve ended up using the Philip Medical Centre (just as long as I can queue up there at opening time to avoid longer waits).

Ha, Ochre Health. I decided to give them a go as couldn’t get into usual practice – what a joke. Doctor was so far off the track with what I was telling her that I wish I had not wasted my money. To boot, when I paid, I thought I was going to be able to use the on the spot refund facility – oh no, you have to tell us in advance if you want to do that. What the?? I have to bother to tell you that I’d like to do it all in one transaction, rather than schlep down to Medicare and waste an hour of my work day. Hey, here’s an idea -why didn’t you ask me?

I looked these guys up and you would not believe what they were willing to pay for a GP who worked only retail hours – over $300k. Thta’s why your practice is there and not where you need them to be.
