A mate of mine who is a Labor staffer told me that Kate Lundy might have a challenger in her next pre-selection. Apparently there is a growing number of right-wingers who are dissatisfied with her performance.

Lundy’s ex-partner and local union kingpin George Wason wrote this in an analysis of the 2001 election: “Locally we had small target Bob McMullan, Annette Ellis and Senator Kate Lundy who seems to have an obsession about Howard residing in the lodge, which may be a symbolic gesture, but they are not the bread and butter issues facing the people, and once again, it shows how out of touch they really are.”

If Labor had any quality control, then they would dump all three for underperformance. Instead the word is that McMullan is the most likely to suffer a sticky end because he is in the smallest faction (even though he is the smartest and the biggest achiever of the three). Ellis and Lundy are probably up there with the lightest light-weights in caucus, which is really saying something. Notice how Lundy’s portfolio has been downgraded to “token” portfolio level.

3 years ago I’d have thought this sheer fantasy.

But i know a lot of former Lundy fans who’ve gone cold in recent times.

So why no Ellis whispers? She’s the weakest of the three by a mile.

Looking at conference numbers, whom ever they are, they’re kidding themselves.

I’m off to the bookies…10/1 it’s The Leader of the Principality of Canberra!

No, that was Kate Ellis, from SA

Wasn’t she on the Glass House last week?

Who would be in the running?

As long as whoever is running manages to keep Kerry Tucker and her cohort out of the senate I’ll be happy.
