Putting poor old Arts back with the environment is a bizarre move !

Seems simple to me, it’s the gummint putting together some portfolios that they don’t think are particularly important and can be farmed out to some n00b with no experience and who doesn’t particularly care anyway.

I don’t think anyone would call Tony Burke a n00b – he’s been the environment minister for the last 2.5 years, and the agriculture minister for 3 years before that.

Putting poor old Arts back with the environment is a bizarre move – Arts only moved to the environment portfolio in the first place because of (presumably a promise to) Peter Garrett. In 2010 the department was so happy to see the back of them! Back to a bizarre portfolio rencontre between serious scientists and policymakers, and Arts minus the ole pork-barrell regional touring programs that finally went off to the Arts Council for a bit of reality training (viz one program administering all of $500,000 a year that had a F/T APS 6, half an EL1, a quarter of an EL2’s payload, plus an eighth of the AS allocated to administer it. That would be more than $250,000 plus overheads just for the admin. What real-life business has overhead costs that are well over 50 per cent of turnover? ) Not exactly a meeting of like minds for institutional conversations, or even an opportunity for efficiencies. FAIL!

Clarification required here – Arts is not moving back to the Environment Portfolio; it will have the same Minister, but not be in the same Portfolio. No MoGing thank goodness. The last thing you need in an election year.

Or perhaps is being punished for being mates with Eddie Obeid?

Dept Climate, Health, Education, Environment, Security and Everything else or CHEESE as it’s known.

And what of the ageing minster and the small business minister?

Perhaps it would be better if we had the Dept of Industry, Climate Change, Energy, Aviation, Transport, Education, Tourism and Science – DICCEATERS.

I see what you did there.

Made a fool of yourself

Putting climate change and science in the one portfolio is like putting intelligent design and evolution in the same portfolio.

This is a manoeuvre by Labor to make cuts harder to identify.

The acronym writers will have to get to work on the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education.

DIICCSRTE isn’t really going to cut it

If they added environment to the portfolio you could have

DIISCRETE 🙂

The article is quiet confusing… It was my understanding it would now be Department of Climate Change Industry and Innovation and Department of Science, Research and Tertiary Education would be separate.

Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism will now absorb Energy Efficiency and Small Business

Ahh I’m going to go back to the confused corner til it all happens

The acronym writers will have to get to work on the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education.
