New psych ward to be built

Thumper 19 October 2007 3

The ABC is telling us that tenders have been called for a new 40 bed psychiatric unit at the Canberra Hospital.

ACT Opposition health spokeswoman Jacqui Burke has criticised the government for taking to long to get the initiative started as well as for having 10 less beds than originally promised.

Acting Health Minister Simon Corbell says the size of the unit has been determined after two years of consultation with mental health experts.

Whatever the case, it is a step forward and should help alleviate some of the issues associated with psychiatric patients.

Depends Thumper…are they ‘secure’ beds? Or will we still be pouring lost souls into the Prison system cause the health system can’t cope with difficult people?

Just park them in the carpark in a trolley bed, when the meter runs out shove them onto Hindmarsh and let Darwin take over.

But why on earth does it take two years to consult with experts about how big it should be?
