New Shanghai closed?

I heard a rumour that the New Shanghai in Dickson was closing, due to a phenomenal increase in rent. Can anyone confirm this? I’ll settle for idle speculation.

Yum cha at the New Shanghai had become quite the Saturday tradition. I’d love to hear some alternatives.

Yeah Kenny’s does a great roast duck – Tak Kee Inn across the road is worth a visit for roast as well.

Any news on Jasmison Dumplings?? Not loving Dickson at the moment! For evening you must all try Kennys Super Club!!Very Amazing Duck & Crab…yum..& cheap…

I find the Yum Cha at Noble Palace to be a bit overpriced. I still the one at the Italian club is the best for taste and value in Canby.

drivers licences for Sydney’s Yum Cha cart pushers?!

On the advice of a colleague, we’re trying the Dumpling Inn at Jamison shops this weekend. Thanks for the tips – depending upon how the Dumpling Inn goes, we may need them…

Hiked 3 grand a month? Sounds like someone didn’t want them there anymore…. Wonder what the building is going to be used for?

The Chinese Rest. at the Italo club does pretty good Yum Cha (I haven’t been there in a long time though) also the recently opened Prince’s Palace at Belconnen. Otherwise Noble Palace is the best.

I’ve not been since they moved to Deakin Soccer Club, but the Imperial Palace formerly of Moore St in Civic was always cheap and cheerful. I believe its less cheap now but you still get the authentic booming ‘you wan steam chicken feet? steam vegables?’

I’ve been to Yum Cha at the Prince Palace (newish joint on Emu Bank in Belconnen). Food’s great but the speed of service left a bit to be desired.

I went to New Shanghai regularly for lunch on a Saturday for the last year or so, and always enjoyed the food – excellent hangover cure. Now I need to find a replacement.

I’m not sure if it’s indicative of their weekend fare, but a friend and I paid and left Four Rivers after a single round (three plates) one weekday lunch – we’re fairly confident the dumplings had been reheated in a microwave.

I’m keen to try Noble Palace – is that opposite the mall on Corinna Street?

I’ve heard mixed reviews of the yum cha at the Italian Club. Any comments?

Thanks, yum cha lovers!

had yum cha at the four rivers? any good bunny? as good as NS?

Yep and their yum cha is much better than NS imho. You definately need to book as the resturant is nowhere near as big, but it’s well worth a trip there to try it out.

I stopped going to Yum Cha there when they became even more brazen with their singling out of Asian (Chinese? I assume) people in the line (behind us) waiting for a table, giving them priority seating and making us wait. Time after time. How can they get away with such blatant behaviour???

Good Riddance

went to their final yum cha at lunch on sunday – as good as ever, more packed than ever and we got a complimentary bottle of wine to take with us when we settled up. had to wait over half an hour on the stairs for a table to become free, but was worth the wait.

apparently the rent was being hiked three g’s a month.

i’ll miss their cracked rice as much as their yum cha – anyone had yum cha at the four rivers? any good bunny? as good as NS?

Ditto on Noble Palace, but the range, prices and competition don’t match Sydney.

4 Rivers in Dickson does a pretty darn good yum cha as does Noble Palace in Woden.

We had food poisoning there a couple of times so stopped going after a really bad experience.

It was perfectly steamed.

In some cultures, being served a cockroach is a sign of respect – much like being called a monkey. 😉

Was the Cockie dead or still alive?

I was served a cockroach with my dim sims at the New Shanghai.

Upon querying whether I should pay for food with such an additional garnish, the response was: “10 per cent off!”

There was a story to this effect in the Canberra Times. Sad – it did a pretty gopod job.
