Did anyone else think that the new rounabout at bowen drive off parkes way is worse than the previous intersection. Prior to the Roundabout you could be in the left lane and turn onto kings ave now all trafic left to russel and right to parkes merges to one lane prior to the roundabout absolute bottleneck.

there have been signs around for months.
also, anyone working at JGB, Questacon, Parliament House or any other building in the Parkes area was given notice via all-staff emails.

This roundabout, from what i understand, is temporary anyway – they were asked to speed up works to finish asap before the NGA opens thier Turner to Monet show, which not only causes more traffic flow, but many galleries will refuse to have thier assets (it is a billion-dollar show)displayed anywhere near any construction works.

The roundabout is where Bowen Drive comes up under Kings Ave, and you can either turn left onto Kings Ave, go straight ahead to JGB carpark, or turn right to go to Gallery and High Court.

I don’t know why they haven’t re-opened the sliplane to get onto Kings Ave. The turn left is quite square and awkward off the roundabout so you have to hope they didn’t design it like that.

Can someone elaborate here? Parkes Way is on the northern side of the lake, Bowen Drive is on the southern side. The two are joined by Kings Avenue. So exactly where is this roundabout>?

Only accident i have ever been involved in was at that intersection (minor rear-ender…my fault) so i’m glad it’s getting an upgrade.

Working next to that intersection, I saw probably 10 cars on their side from accidents, and probably 30-40 other serious accidents at the roundabout. I have no idea how there was never a fatal there.

The Roundabout it a massive improvement, and when they open the slip lane back onto Kings Ave will be a huge improvement.

I think the roundabout is a vast improvement on the previous intersection.

I don’t know that they’re going to keep it that way. If you have a look at the roundabout, there’s a “square-edged line marking” that doesn’t lend itself particularly well to turning left. There is something to be said about forcing all traffic through the roundabout, however, as one is able to see the oncoming traffing from King Edward Terrace, without looking over one’s shoulder.

Remember, the roundabout was only required because drivers were unable to make it through that intersection without having an accident – although what was so difficult about that intersection, I’ll not know.
