Hi all, I’ve been back in Canberra for a few months now after an absence of many years, and I’m keen to do some amateur acting.

Does anyone know of any groups that would let amateurs audition? I’m 25 and don’t have any experience beyond high school plays…

Cheers!

I joined Canberra Rep recently, but haven’t had a chance to get along to anything as yet. A friend has recommended I go along to one of the happy hours on a Friday.

I’ll second notdingers’ suggestion for Rep – I just finished working on a play with them – terrific bunch of people.

Well, there’s an election coming up in a couple of months – plenty of theatrics needed there!

But seriously, there are plenty of amateur theatre groups in Canberra. Supa Productions and the Canberra Philharmonic are just two that spring to mind. Have a look in the local papers to see who is putting on shows near you.

Is a good resource for theatre in Canberra

I would suggest contacting The Canberra Rep group based out of Theatre 3 in Acton.

I worked with them for many years, they do a bunch of main stage plays every year which are put on completely by volunteers so you can get involved in all aspects of the theatre, including acting.

They also have other workshops/plays through the year put on by Rep Studio which is basically made up of people interested in doing smaller productions.

It is a great community and they have an active social calendar so you get to meet lots of people and make great contacts and friends.

I would recommend heading along one friday night to Happy Hour at the theatre which happens every week. There will be plenty of people to chat with about the society.
